Default BEFORE you REPLACE the window motor - check this out

I apologize for not taking pictures while i was in the process, however i will do my best to illustrate....

As expected, my 03's windows (both) started acting up. The passenger side just seemed as thought the pinch sensor needed to be reset, and otherwise worked as expected.

The driver's side went out completely. It came back to life intermittently (for an hour or two) twice, about 4 months apart, and completely randomly.

I took the car to the Stealership and they told me it would be $465 per window to replace the motor, as they were both "completely shot". I asked how a shot motor can still operate (pass. side) and they BS'd me some more.

Long story short: I set about dismantling the passenger side to reset the window(success), and when i was in there I started being motivated to replace the driver's side motor my self.

I broke into the driver's side and got down to the motor to remove it (was gonna go buy the motor after i found out if I could even take it out by myself (success) and when i got into the motor area, my father happened upon the scene of the crime and offered his two sense, saying fix the motor, don't replace it.

I took the top off the motor *see pic* and inside was the electric coiled magnet or w/e, a test turn with the fingers revealed that it was tough going in one direction (the down direction).

a few light sprays of WD-40 later and some re-assembling, the window works like a champ.

*a word to the wise* if attempted do not spin the coil more than 1/4 turn in any direction and be sure that it is in the same position as when you started - result of not following this - when the door opens, the window will not move down as designed, but when slight pressure is applied to the top of the window it will fall.

thanks for reading, i know it was lengthly

No words describe the relief.... working windows are a luxury less appreciated, until they don't work

It will fail again once it gets dirty. The better you clean it the longer it lasts.

the first time I just wiped it with an alcohol pad and it worked for 3 weeks. the second time i took it out and cleaned it very well with q-tips. Lasted about 2 months. The third time; I cleaned it to the point where it looked new and its been going strong for over 4 months now.

Use a pencil eraser on the armature after cleaning it with an electronics solvent. Other cleaners may leave a residue that will burn on and cause failure.

I agree. I cleaned mine and it failed again in a couple of months. I then replaced it with a new (rebuilt) motor from Autozone. That motor eventually failed after a year however since it came with a lifetime warranty, I simply ordered a new one from Autozone and replaced the old one. No out of pocket costs except my time to stick in a new motor.

After you've taken the door off three times it gets to be an easy job.

I cleaned mine and I have to go through the process of resetting the motor. Although I am not sure how far down do I rotate the the threads when re-assembling the motor? Any advice?

I'm laughing at the image of how quickly the window would roll up and down in that case. sweet

Yup, my passenger window was working intermittently. I did the cleaning and its been working since. (two weeks)lol
It's a pretty easy fix even if its temporary, and when it goes out I'll be heading to Autozone to buy one of theirs with the lifetime warranty.
