30 Bucks to diagnose a problem isnt so bad. I also have the extended gold warranty. Everytime I bring my car to the shop they want a 95 diagnostic fee. Atleast there not asking you for that. I can understand why they want you to pay for the oil. Its a cheap blow for them but whatever. Your almost at 100K, and really all you have is a leaky valve cover. In my acura integra I had to change that **** every oil change.

My valve cover gaskets on my last car started leaking at 40,000 miles or so. I spent the $50 or so on the gaskets, spent 5 hours in the garage and replaced them myself. Put another 120,000 miles on it and traded it in on the Z. Never had a problem again. I didn't blame Ford for it and I didn't complain about it. The factory seals just didn't hold up Don't know how you really would gauge what is the expected lifetime of a seal like that. Some people never have a problem and others do. I am not surprised with my bad luck
If that is all it is that does not warrant a new motor. And it sure is not the end of the world. The only way to see if you have any motor problems is to let them do the compression test they want for $30 or spend several hundred dollars to fix the valve covers and see if you still burn oil! I'd let them proceed and calm down about it. Good luck. Keep us posted becuase I've never seen anyone else complain about valve cover leaks.
Off to see who has valve cover leaks and the labor to do it so I'm prepared if it ever happens to me!

Geez, this sucks...
https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....t=valve+covers

If it's true there are some automotive engineers that need to be taken out back and shot. I swear most of the new ideas in cars that I have seen in the last 10 years absolutely suck.

OP - I'm starting to feel a little bit of your pain now, but probably not for the same reasons. Good luck again, hope that warranty thing you bought covers something but it still would be normal wear and tear.

I found two other posts with no repsonses and don't have time at home to go through the other 8 pages that may or may not have a match... maybe tomorrow...

sounds like the service advisor was trying to help you get a whole new engine and using the recently released oil consumption test which if you fail = new engine, instead you acted the fool and I doubt this guy is going to try to hook you up at all. You really blew it, a $2000 engine all because you moaned about $30, good going.

Sorry I was wrong. I posted a link to seals that were actually for the valves themselves. I finally noticed that 24 are required for the car. Nevermind.
