Default Keys stopped working

Hi,

I've been trying to figure this out for a while now and I'm wondering if anyone had any ideas what the cause was.

I have a 2003 Touring Z. A couple of years ago I replaced the battery (which may have been the cause of this). When I replaced the battery I never checked my "other" key or my valet key. Then a year or so later I needed them and they've stopped working. (Car grinds but doesn't turn over).

Anyway, I had to replace my battery again (I live in the desert we go through tires and batteries like water) and I was holding my breath but the car does start with my normal key. But it still doesn't with the other 2.

Any ideas how I screwed up the other 2 keys? Again, the only thing I can figure is that it was the battery.

And, how much do you think Nissan is going to screw me (and they will because that's just how they are) to reprogram those 2 keys?

Thanks for the replies and yes I did a search and I didn't see anyone with this exact situation.

Well I know with them having to provide the key + programming labor = $160. I just dont know how much it costs them to get a key. But seeing as you already have the keys, Im sure you can work out a reasonable price with them.
