Loud CLUNK Front Driver side - Stock 06
Hi Guys,
I drive a 06 350Z coupe mounted on 20 inch wheels. Suspension is Stock, no sway bars, only mods are Typhoon intake and cat back exhaust.
about 2 months ago i started hearing a VERY LOUD CLUNK everytime i hit a bump, or brake, or accelerate while turning. It is so LOUD it is audible over the bose system playing at max level. It shakes the whole car and I feel the CLUNK under my feets while driving. It comes from the front end, driver side, Loudest when breaking but audible at every knits and cracks.
We put the car on an alignement table and checked the suspension, everything is fine. We started putting great weight on each tire/suspension and could not get ANY sound. Brakes are perfect as well.
Only when turning the steering from left to right could we hear a faint clunk, but nothing like when i brake or accelerate.
He told me he believes the "compensator rod" on the driver side is shot. He mentionned there is a Sealed bearing inside that rod that is broken and when the wheel assembly moves the clunk from the bearing reverbates in the whole car because it's sealed in metal.
I tried searching on this side about this compensator rod and can't find anything. Did he mean Ball joint or Tie rod? Is this a common problem? What is the name of that broken part he is referring to?
Thanks for all your help.

^ I would take this as religion.
But, I have had a stock wheel/tire make a clunking noise by being lowered and tracked it down to the tire bumping and scuffing the inside wheel well. You may want to look for scuffs in there.

I have the same issue. It makes a "Clunk" noise when the wheel is turned to the right, whenever I am on an angle (ie. Driveway), whenever I come to a hard stop, pretty much anytime there is any load on that front driverside wheel.
I took it to the dealership and they couldn't find anything broken, they told me that they would have to put a wrench on every bolt under there until they found what was causing it. They told me it could take 5mins or 20 hours at $140/hr as this was not covered by warranty.
I got Rob at the ZcarGarage looking into it, I will let u know what it is as soon as I find out.
BTW my car is an 04 Roadster.
