Need help with the following codes, P0183 and P0462
P0183 (Fuel Level Sensor )
P0462 (Fuel Tank Temperature Sensor)
I was installing a new Stereo head unit in my car and once the Bose head unit was out I needed to relocate the car before plugging in the new stereo so I did. Once I was done with the install, I start the car and got the above codes. I mention this because I don't know if its coincidence that this happened right after the install of the head unit, which I don't see how it could be, but you never know.
Anyhow I thought before checking the codes that it was because I unplugged the stereo without disconnecting the battery.
I went to my local autozone and got this codes with their scanner. The car seems to run normal, its running great. I do have a TT kit with a fuel return and fuel pump that is after market. I also have the HKS F-Con.
Anyhow they cleared the light and it has stayed off for about 15 miles but if it returns what do you guys think? Is it coincidence that the SES light came on during stereo install? Not? If not, anyone had this issues?
I do have issues once in a while filling up the gas tank as the hose at any gas station keeps pooping as if the tank was full but is not. The dealer said there was a TSB for that but my car was beyond the years which it covers. My car only 23K miles but they stated i was into my 4th year already which is the limit. So I did not get that fixed yet.
Also another question, after they cleared the codes the VDC light and SLIP light stayed on and the Tachometer was not reading for about 3 miles until i started the car again. It works fine now after that. I doubt that is limp mode.
I'm sorry guys that I cant be more specific but im not too mechanically inclined, as I always say.
Any help will be appreciated.

WOW really? I wont worry about it then, since you got the same code during a similar install. Thanks!

I just got the same codes after a stereo install. How do I clear them?
I tried the method of turning the key to accessory, waiting 3 secs, pressing the gas pedal 5 times, etc... but it didn't work.

bump for an old thread, but I just ripped the z apart to start putting the stereo in and I did not finish, but put the center console back in and turned it on and have a SES or CEL which ever you call it! I was freaking out until I found this thread! Now I feel relieved haha!
i had the same thing happen to me 2004 350z base non bose system, while install a radio. i had to relocated the car, while the a/c computer and radio was out. After reinstall the radio. i turn the car on. code p0462, p0183, p0304 came on. clear it at autozone. so far no codes yet. Car driving fine
the fuel level sender signal goes to the A/C amp so when you have the shifter panel off (has the AC ***** on it) then you will get those codes because the signal is open and the ECU senses a failure
Super bump...Hate to dig up old threads, but I just finished my stereo install on my '03 and it's throwing these codes as well. Had them cleared, and then they came back after a couple days of driving. Can anybody chime in on this? I plan to clear them out again, but it does make me feel better that this has happened to others. I really found it strange that something got screwed up with fuel sensors when I never touched them...
If I'm not mistaken I think it has to do with turning your car on during the install without having your gauges connected. As you know those gauges show you a lot of basic funtions of the car including mileage and the level of gas you have left which are part of the codes being thrown. Id reset it again and just give it some time, shouldnt be a problem
Yeah, I did the reset and all is well now. The check engine light came back on, but it was due to my test pipes...which was odd since mine is an 03, but just ordered and installed some foulers. No codes anymore...things are smooth and the system is bumpin!
I have four codes popped up,
1-P0456
2-P0462
3-P0183
4-P0456
the 0456 has been on for awhile, I cleared it re-tightened the gas cap and it after awhile it pops back on. like someone here has mentioned about replacing the bose with an aftermarket headunit and get the P0462 and P0183, it happened to me too. I drove the car for almost 2000 miles before the engine light pops on. any help out there would be great. thanks

I am glad I found this. I had the same exact problem after installing my JL sub in the factory location. I thought somehow I damaged something during the process. I just reset the ECU
and the light is gone now.
I had the head unit boss installation and sure enough went by Autozone and Had the Same Problem. I Suggest Don’t Worry About It And Clear Codes and Start Driving That Beautiful Z asap as much as possible! As they say Caca Happens.
