FYI--Per dealership, they remove the entire seat cover and remove just the sides (grey part of seat) and attach two new sides (meaning they reuse the center section). They do both seats even if one of them is okay. You have to have it done in your warranty time period (3 yrs/36000 miles).

Personally, I'm going to wait as long as possible to have them replaced. I'll just continue to shave mine until it wears through.

I'm not sure that they would consider this fraying. It usually takes place on the bottom part of the seat on the side bolsters.

As for the replacement, my service rep said that she would only order the fix for the driver's seat since the passenger side is not fraying.

Does anyone have a printout of the TSB?

I'd also like to see the printout or a link to the TSB.

Well went in for my oil change today and told to the dealer to please look at the seat fraying. He asked, where is it? Right here. And with an arm gesture, motions to one of the side bolsters. I said, no...it's actually under my right back pocket on the seat bottom. He said, we'll take a look.

Once the car was done he walked over to the parts counter and said he is giving my information to the part's guy and is going to call me back. Hmmm, waiting for the phone call to see what their fix is going to be.

My seats are frayed also. Is there any update on this thread? Has anyone had the fix done? What is it and how does it look? Is it different then the original piece?

I don't see how only the outside pieces could only be replaced, they are all sewn together. I can't beleive they would unstitch them. Any help would be appreciated.

Default Seat fix

I had this TSB replacement done recently. The dealership ordered a new seat cover of the same material and simply removed the frayed cover and slipped a new one on.

While I like the new cover, I don't have any confidence that the same thing won't happen again...

Dkmura,

So, the new seat cover looks exactly the same? Did they only do one seat? Was it the whole cover? I would think it would happen again unless they changed the material some.

djbit,

That would be great. If you get a chance, do a before and after picture. Do both seats need to be replaced? I can't believe they use the same fabric but you will know on Wednesday. Thanks and keep me posetd.

Yes, the seat cover looks exactly the same and they only did one seat as the driver's side is the one that gets much use. I didn't request they redo the entire seat either. It was really only the side bolster that was going.

dkmura,

Could they have just replaced the side bolster? I would think the only way would be the whole cover.

Mike,

You have a copy of the TSB or you are looking for one. I don't have one but would like one.

dkmura,

My experience is different than yours. I had the TSB done a couple of days ago. There is most definitely a difference in the material of the replacement cover and the original. It is obvious if you feel the cover on the driver side versus the passenger side in my car. The covers look almost 100% identical. But the new one is much stiffer and a thicker/coarser texture. I would verify with your dealer that they ordered the correct parts. I don't have the receipt in front of me, but I will update this thread later with the parts that are listed on my receipt.

I think I will be asking that they replace the other seat cover so that there is consistency between the two seats. In sunlight, the difference is noticeable.

articfury,

I figured there had to be a difference in the material. If you can notice it by looking at it, then they should have replaced both covers. It is the compete seat cover correct? Listing the part numbers would be great. Thanks.

Like I said earlier my drivers seat was fraying just underneath my right back pocket, not on the side bolsters. The service dept looked at it and instituted a fix no questions asked.

I called them back today and they said they had placed the order with Nissan. I asked what the fix will be, and they said they will be replacing the seat cover. Once it comes in, I will let you know how it looks etc.

Here is what the invoice reads:

VE26AA RPL LEFT SEAT CUSHION TRIM
..............725 W93.....................................................(N/C)
.....1 87670-CD006 TRIM ASSY.....................................(N/C)
.....1 87370-CD001 TRIM ASSY.....................................(N/C)
.....1 86400-CD001 HEADREST-F...................................(N/C)
VE27AA RPL LEFT SEAT BACK TRIM
..............725 W93.....................................................(N/C)
VE48AA RPL ALL FRONT SEAT HEAD RESTRAINTS
..............725 W93.....................................................(N/C)

I don't think they replaced the center insert. Fortunately, Nissan is paying them like .7 of an hour to do the whole process per seat. So, they aren't in any rush at all But the work looks good so far. Although it does smell a bit like adhesive still.

articfury,

Is your seat rocking back and forth? Mine is doing it but the dealer still has no fix for it. When you make a turn the seat will rock one way, its not all the time.

Also, the bottom cushion when I look at it seems like it is all one piece. The sides are stitched to the center. I would think the whole thing was replaced, not just the side pieces.

350ZNY, take a look at my DIY fix for the seat motion https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=18313

You will notice the seat motion more if you do a hard left followed by a hard right, which is probably why you don't notice it all the time.
