Improving MPG
'01 Maxima (3.0L engine), driven for 7 yrs., NEVER used premium, NEVER went
"bad" on me. '00 XTerra (3.3L engine), NO premium, NEVER failed. '04 P'finder
(3.5L engine), NEVER seen premium, has NEVER failed. The Zed ain't ever gon-
na see premium; I'll post the results of my "experiments", when done! Fails?
I'll just go get a new one!

The ECU will adjust for your lack of intelligence and common sense. So, your car won't ping and detonate all over the place, but it's not putting out the power that it should nor is it being taken care of properly. It's also not greatly benefitting your wallet. Your car will get you back for all the times you put regular in it.

I averaged 31 mpg on the highway trip from Texas to NY this past summer. I have been getting on average 24-25 babying in the city(stop and go). When the pedal drops, the mpg does so as well-very well actually...lol. MPG plummets to nearly 12 mgp in some cases.
Keep the tire inflated please. 91 octane is required, not recommended(as per the manual as a rec. but don't skimp out, you paid a pretty penny for your car, pay the pretty penny for your gas and upkeep....) It will perform better for a longer period of time if you do. Good luck.
