Default high pitched noise in cabin of car?

Brand new '08 base model, 6spd.

With the radio turned off, as soon as I turn the car on, I hear this very very quiet, but still audible high pitched noise. Almost similar to what you would hear from the old tube television (not sure if anyone remembers, but I remember hearing this very high pitched sound, and if you turn your head slightly, it might go away).

It really isn't that noticeable all the time, but has anyone else noticed this.

My 07 makes that noise. You can really notice it if you turn the key "on", but don't crank the starter. It sounds like the fuel pump to me.

Can it be the ground for the stereo?

Or is it just the fuel pump?

I haven't noticed if the noise changes when i step on the gas, but it might be due to the interior noise in the cabin increasing when I do step on the gas. I will try it out later when I am in the parking lot.

Someone mentioned the fuel pump. I don't know how I would check that, but if that is something I can check, how would I go about doing that?

Thanks.

I will try that out later and see if the noise is more noticeable with only the key turned to "on".

I thought I was the only one. I hear it most of the time when the car is quiet and running. I can turn of everything and be on the freeway and still hear it. And you described it perfect, like a tube tv turned on with no volume just the high frequency.

I hear it without the radio being on.

OP, mine is an 08 also if that makes you feel better. Sometimes it gets really annoying. Too bad there is really nothing you can do about it since a dealer would clame they dont hear anything...

I know exactly what youre talking about but thankfully have never heard it in my Z, i focus too much on the rear axle clicking. which now reminds me to take it in to get that fixed.

What are you doing in your Z when you hear the clicking? stopping, starting, or when you shift?
I haven't heard any clicking in mine (yet). I am happy for that.

I get the same noise, and have noticed that when I hit the rear defrost button, the noise stops for a second then slowly comes back.

You guys are killing me!

If you hear it with the radio off its the Fuel pump.

If you hear it with the radio on, it your cheap stereo install.

If you hear it when you build speed its your rear end (mostly after market LSD)

My car sounds like a 747 with my dual fuel pumps.

If the OP's noise is like mine, which it sounds like it is, it's not the radio, and it's most likely not the fuel pump. It's definitely an electrical issue. If it were the fuel pump, why would the noise stop when the rear defrost button is pressed, and then why would it fade back in after a couple seconds? Also, since the noise is coming from the mid/rear of the cabin, how could it be the fuel pump?
Fuel pump, tranny, diff noise is not what I'm hearing.
