Besides the non-advertised "automatic locking" feature of my Z, the trip odometer started to flame out the other day in that if the trip OD reads 157.4 miles, the .4 will blink on and off and sometimes completely off to where the 157 will be by itself.
My mechanic told me that the electronic odometer is controlled by a circuit board in the dash and most likely, the circuit board is failing. He said that it would cost hundreds of dollars for him to tear apart the dash to get to the board for replacement. He also said that eventually, the trip OD may blink out completely and the overall OD might start blinking out as well.
So before I let my mechanic tear into the dash, can anyone think of alternatives I can do beforehand?

On a side note, as much as I like my car, the fit and finish quality is not so great. My old Civic had better fit and finish (wasn't as fun to drive though).
1. While pushing the odo/trip meter switch, turn the ignition ON.
2. Check that the trip meter displays “0000.0.”
3. Push the odo/trip meter switch at least 3 times within 5 seconds.
4. All the segments on the trip computer illuminate. At this time, the unified meter control is turned to diagnosis mode. NOTE: If any of the segments is not displayed. Replace the triple meter.

I dont wanna take it to the dealer yet because the people i bought the car from are worthless. Do you think this ^^ will help? My gas gauge only goes to 3/4 on a full tank, so i know i have to take it soon but the less i have to ask them to fix the better.
