Default dealership problem with ebrake not holding

my ebrake takes like 20 clicks until it actually feels like its holding, but on a hill it barely holds still rolls backwards slowly. i took it to the dealership since im still under warranty and they told me that i have to replace my rear brakepads to fix the problem! so that means its not covered by warranty since its a "wear and tear" item! wtf i thought the handbrake just needs adjusting?

I have a 03 Track model with the same problem. I just ordered new brake pads and will install them when they arrive. They need to be replaced anyway as the pads are super thin. Hopefully that will fix the problem.

I had the same problem and took it in they said nothing was wrong but I noticed they tightened the hand brake. I know my rear brake pads are fine so that isn't my problem. I asked about hand brake tightening and they quoted me over $100... They said its not under warranty since it is technically "wear and tear".

Slanteyez, i got the same problem. I guess the person that had the car before me was f**king around, trying to drift using the e-brake! I cant even really park on hills, i have to pull the handle all the way up for it to really engage! now, after reading your post, seems like i gotta pay to get it fixed!

There are two sets of brake pads on the rear. One set actually brakes the car and then there is a drum style set for the ebrake. They can go out of adjustment or they could be worn out from too much abuse.

If you take the car to the dealers because the windows do not work, they will still sell you brake pads.
