Default 2007 - clutch sticking, but not to the floor

I searched for threads about clutch problems with the 07's and it seems like everyone is complaining about their clutch not even coming up off the floor. Well today I had a similar problem but not quite the same. This happened the first time I tried engaging first today, the pedal came up at first but then got stuck right around the friction point. I was able to hook my foot underneathe and pull it all the way up and it stayed up at that point.

I thought maybe it would only do it that one time, and it came all the way back up several times after that through every gear, but then when I was downshifting it did the same thing, got stuck halfway. It seemed to just happen randomly, but I'd say it happened more than half the time while downshifting. Even when the pedal does come all the way up, the upper half of the travel (above the friction point) seems "sticky." It's hard to explain, I guess the best way I can describe it is that it gets slower and mushy up at the top, rather than quick and snappy.

I haven't gone to the dealer about the recall on the slave cylinder because I just got back from school a few days ago, so on Tuesday I'm going to give them a call. Anyone else have this problem? I'm hoping the slave cylinder is what's causing this so the dealership has no problem getting it fixed. Thought?

Thanks

had the same thing happen AFTER i had already had the recall done. took it back to the dealership. they had to order another slave cylinder along with pressure plates and a clutch. it took a while for the dealer to get the parts (3 weeks). plus, the job itself takes at least a day, but now my z is running fine. you shouldn't be charged a dime for any of the parts.

I tried it out for a second time today, the pedal now gets stuck half way every time now. I also noticed that the friction point is lower than normal; I almost stalled pulling out of the garage because I wasn't expecting it to grab so soon. It seems like the normal path of the clutch pedal is sagging a good 3 or 4 inches. Well, I guess the dealership is my best option, just hoping they don't have to order the parts so I have a non-working car for 3 weeks ...especially while I'm expecting my exhaust to be delivered this week

it sounds like yours is doing the same as mine was. i didn't have to park mine for the 3 weeks. i still drove it. at some points, the "sticking" would stop. at others, i just pulled the pedal the rest of the way out with my foot. i actually got used to it. i also noticed you could feel a lot of vibration (almost like something was grabbing) through the pedal when pushed all the way to the floor.

Brought my Z to the dealer today, it was driveable but barely. I was worried that I would lose all clutch pressure and not be able to put it into gear. When the service guy got in it he stalled it twice because of how low the friction point sagged down. Then I heard him rev it up to around 2k-3k rpms to get it going so he wouldn't stall it lol. Supposed to get it back tomorrow afternoon, unless they don't have the part in stock then they have to overnight it.

sorry to dig up such a old thread, but I'm experiencing the exact same problems!

What is the outcome of this common problem? Clutch Fluid? Master or Slave cylinder? Clutch Spring?

That's one of the reasons I got the bullet-proof 5AT. Who needs trouble and inconvenience when you can steer (thanks for the clarification of terms, SageZ) the car around just as quickly without worrying about when the clutch is going to give out, worrying about when the synchros are going to quit, listen to the horrible sound the throwout bearing makes, and wonder what fluid to use.

Search for CSC recall or concentric slave cylinder recall.

I had the same problem and the dealership always said the clutch pedal just needed lubrication. This went on for long after the warranty had expired and I just resigned myself to having to pull it out with my foot when shifting. Then one day I was getting my oil changed and I asked them to lube it again and they said that I needed a whole new clutch assembly. I flipped! I told them I had been complaining about it since long before the warranty had expired and all they said was it needed lubrication and now that the warranty has expired they want to tell me it's a clutch assembly!? So I call NNA and complained and they surprisingly said they would fix it for free!! And what do you know, that did not fix it. I went back to the dealership and they said they would try bleeding the clutch system and sure enough that fixed it. They said there was all sorts of air in the system! And I haven't had any problem with it since. Yea!!
I would recommend trying the system bleed first. Maybe it's simply that, or maybe the slave cylinder is slowly leaking air into the system, but I haven't had any problems since.

Thanks Newzee, I bled my clutch fluid and that seemed to fix the issue. Hopefully it doesn't come back.

Thanks for the help!

Flushing the fluid fixed that same problem in my '05 for about a year but now it's doing it again. Slow air leak might explain it.
Good information - will try bleeding again.

could be the reason for the slave cylinder recall.

Anyone know how hard is it to replace the slave cylinder?
