Default 3rd gear and warranty

The dealer refused warranty work for my Z. 3rd gear grind sometimes, AC WHINE, TRANSMISSION NOISE IN NEUTRAL. He blames it on the aftermarket parts. ( CAI and NITROUS 50 SHOT which hasnt been sprayed since Febuary) ..Get this, I had problems with my auto up on the window not working right, he blames it on the tint install..I have heard alot of **** but, damn!! But Bad tint install? Anyway, I know we have been on the 3rd gear issue in the past but I need to know how many of us have actually gotten there trannys replaced for the 3rd gear issue.

Thanks
Mike

Default that is B.S.

Sorry to hear you are having problems aswell. I am on my third tranny because of that same problem. The factory is aware of this ,so the dealership should not have given you a hard time. That is not right at all.I am feed up with mine, time for a maxima.Keep pressing them, its not like you are the only one with a mest up tranny!!!!!GOOD LUCK!!!!

Thanks. My other cars I have owned, MUSTANG, VW and AUDI were all modified and I never had problems with warranty.

went to dealer with 3rd gear grind, he calls me back and says they are going to replace the transmission. i'm on my way for the free rental car they are getting for me. regardless of the mods on the rest of the car the tranny should still be under warranty.

The only way the dealer can invalidate the warranty because of modification is if they can prove the mods caused the damage.

I'd be very interested in hearing this guy explain to me what a nitrous installation has to do the noise coming from the AC? I might buy the transmission problems being related, on the assumption that you're really ******* the car, were it not for the fact that these things are well documented problems that Nissan is correcting for other folks.

As for the window tint??? Give me a break. A lot of dealers install the tinting themselves and then try to screw the customer to the tune of $400 for a $40 tint job. If that's all it takes to goof up the window motors on a Nissan product, then Nissan needs to do some serious redesigning.

Sounds to me like you need to try another dealer and give Nissan customer service a call!

Good luck,
Steve R.

Thumbs down They dont care

It seems that the Nissan people dont care anymore. I have been in touch with Nissan Consumer Afraud department and all they do is say they are sorry but dont offer any help. My Z with 1200 miles had the transmission replaced, the driveshaft and a mount replaced. Still no resolve on my problem. Out of service for over 58 days total. They were going to give me another car but changed their mind. Then they were going to good will a new rear. They changed their mind. I requested to meet with the factory tech after he made his decision to see if he had properly identified the problem and after a review they said no. I am now in the process of lemon lawing the car. Its not that I dont like the way the car drives, i just have an inferior product which Nissan fails to recognize.

i brought the car into tom peacock nissan which is pretty far away. the service guy was very helpful and told me that i didnt have to drive to them (since it's about 45 mins away) i went back and he directed me to a dealer nearby me. talked to the service manager and he had a technician come on a short drive with me. i reproduced the grind on an upshift from 2nd to 3rd (high rpm, quick shifting) and it grinded like it has been doing recently. then i got out and he drove the car. duplicated the exact grind and told me that i might have to have the entire transmission replaced. gonna go call them again tomorrow to see how long it will take. i'm hoping that the transmission will be replaced like a few others that have experienced problems. so far no ******** from the dealer but we'll see.

and also, the 3rd gear grind MUST be covered under warranty. no transmission should grind in ANY gear in ANY car. it is a defective transmission. nissan knows about this problem. if you sound like you know what you're talking about then they wont give you **** about it. also if you get nowhere come here and print a few pages of the forum about others that are also having this problem and show them. after that they will have nothing to say.

I had mine replaced about 8k miles ago for 3rd and 5th gear grinding....3rd is starting to grind again at 15k miles.

I'm gonna take mine back in and have them look at that, the window streaks, suspension clunking and squeeking, O2 sensor SES light etc etc.

If I have my tranny replaced again I hope it holds up, if not I'll be going the lemon law route.....I'll either end up with a Convertible or a 2004....or another car.
