Default Weird Noise down shifting to 2nd and 1st?

Alright, any input will be greatly appreciated guys.

So I took my babyZ to the track. Managed to squeeze out a 14.81, not bad for the first time ever I thought. Anyway, on one launch. I experienced really bad wheel hop. I'm talking from 3k rpm to 6k rpm the car just jerked like a ****. After that this is what happens now:

Whenever I downshift into 2nd or 1st (expecially first), if I don't rev match and just apply pressure on the stick into 1st gear gate with the clutch pressed, I can hear my synchcro whinning up (a very mechanical whine). Now normally, I apply pressure, so the car slows down enough and the synchro catches up, it pops into gear, but it never made noises like that before. So anybody else experience this?

Did the wheel hop damage the tranny? The car is completely stock and I launched at 1k rpm. Is that a sign of a damaged synchro in first gear? The car drives fine otherwise I think. Altough I do hear more of that mechanical whine through out all the gears. I could be hearing things though. Help please!

I experience this too, but pay no attention to it. If I rev-match when downshifting into 1st, it is effortless. The synchro needs to be going the same speed as the flywheel for a smooth shift, and if you try to put it into 1st gear (turning engine really fast), while your tranny isn't going really fast, it won't want to go... also, try launching around 2.5k rpm, you will do much better than at 1k... if you got awful wheelhop launching at 1k either the track is awful and/or you planted your foot and never let it catch before you hammered it...

cliffs notes: your tranny is fine, keep practice launching

Thanks for the launching tip. It's just that I never heard the sound of synchro matching the speed of the flywheel before. Usually, I just press against the 1st gear, let the synchro do its thing quitely, and then it pops into gear, then I rev match before I let the clutch out.

So I guess I have two better, more specific questions:

1) Do you rev match before you put it in gear always? And not before you let the clutch out?

2) Do you hear your synchro whinning up when downshift into 1st? Don't rev match and just press against 1st gear with the clutch pressed. And do it with the windows down in a quiet neighborhood, easier to hear that way.

Thanks for you response!

I rev match while the clutch is on the floor. the sound you are hearing is the synchro trying to rev-match to make up for you not...

I realize that, but I never heard that before. I always thought hearing synchro is a sign of the synchro going...

Rev matching is the best thing for downshifting, after a while it feels like an auto tranny. For better braking, step hard on the brake first, then clutch, throttle match, shift, let go clutch and brake again. It also lessens wear on the pads.
