How the __ck do i read my dipstick!!
i just changed my oil, and i cant get a correct reading on my dipstick. Is this the worst dipstick ever or what. all those twists and bends just made splotches of oil all over the meter, so i cant even tell how full it is. i tried like 5-6 times and i get the same results. does this suck or what. seems like the engineer put this in at the last moment when designing the car. the oil and oil filter was easy to handle , but something as simple as the dipstick was forgotten. stupid dipstick.**** me off
I took car into dealer as one morning car had a knocking sound at idle for about 15 minutes. So I wanted them to check the oil level. No one at the dealership could read the dipstick. It appears to wipe itself clean as it twists its way out. Mechanic looked up the oil change I had recently had and said right amount was put in then he added some more and called it good. Seems like this could be a problem along the way.
Are you sure you all are looking at the backside of the dipstick? The hash marks are there for a reason to keep the oil from being wiped off. I agree that the dipstick design is quite poor, but I can still get a reading of my oil level.
I can only get a reading (front or back of the stick) after the car has been sitting for an hour or two. It is a very poor design....right up there with the lack of a glove box, the seat belt rattle, and the GPS door.
