I'd check into the safety switch (or whatever it's called) which requires you to depress your brake to move out of park.

06 has a cable connected between the key and the shifter. Not sure about the 03 but I'm sure it isn't too different...

call the place you bought it from, or a local shop. you've got to know someone thats a mechanic, or if not someone who knows someone who is a mechanic.

my old 03 automatic could be finicky sometimes.

Question Auto trans shifting problem

I am unclear the circumstances when you shift into a gear (drive only and not reverse). Is this a problem all the time or a random occurance?

How many miles are on the vehicle? Has the automatic transmission fluild been changed? Nissan suggest changing the automatic transmission fluid at 60K miles which takes 10 7/8 qt of Nissan ATF matic fluid J.

Definitely check that.

Also as one of the others has pointed out, how long since or has your Z had a trans flush and replaced fluids?? That will make a huge difference. I had my Z done at 60,000 kilometres, much smoother. Will normally be a bit stiff when it's cold first thing, same as every tip-tronic 350 I've driven, irrespective on NZ new or JDM.

My 03 Z is doing the same thing but I physically pulled it down. Now it won't jump into the tiptronic mode at all. I paid Nissan $100 to tell me that the cellenoid in the gear shift needs to be replaced.............for a mere $800! I think they are full of ****.
