Default Nissan Just Replace The Transmission For Me~!!

I don't know if you guys get this. After 6000miles I been having hard time to switch to the 3rd gear especially around 4000~6000RPM. Therefore I drop in the car to the Nissan dealership and the TECH Said they will replace the new desighed transmission for me from Japan. It took them a while but it's finally done. I been told that the first batch of the transmission had the "counter measure" problems and they have the new batch out. So check your car and dealership. Please tell me if the dealer is BS me. Just want to tell you Z lovers as information.

Yea I know what you mean by that...after 4000 miles Im pretty much having that same problem gettin into third and only third. Can you explain what happened to yours when you tried to shift? Maybe I should take it by my dealership and get it checked out. Did you have to pay or was it covered my warranty?

Ok please don't get mad at me here...just trying to help...but it's "replaced", past tense requires a 'd'. Sorry for the english lesson, but you have it that way in your sig. too so I thought i'd point that out for ya.

When you shifted into 3rd gear it grinds, so you have hesitate for couple of seconds before engaging into 3rd gear. It was completely cover by our warranty. However, it takes a while for them to order it since it was a major components, and they have to reinspect like 2~3 times so the whole the process took me about 3 month. To install the transmission is about 2~3days. BTW, the finishing on my shift **** was flaking as well so they replaced for me too. I went to the Connell Nissan dealership in Oakland, CA so far they treated me well.

No, I won't be mad. This is how I can improve. Thanks for pointing it out.

I am getting a new tranny installed this Tuesday for the EXACT problem. They said to drop it off at 7:30AM and it should be ready to be picked up by the end of the day.

I went to my local dealer, I have the same problem, but it doesn't happen all of the time. Anyway, I told them about it, they never heard of this, big surprise. The tech drove it around, said no problems, they refused a tranny swap for me. Wondering what I should do? I have about 5700 miles on the car now, and getting pissssssssssssed.

Default FYI about tran swap...

For those that have posted that it is a couple month process for this then I would find a new dealer. I am probably one of the first people to get a new trans in their Z. Actually, mine has been replaced twice. First at 4000 miles back in December and then at 16,000 miles in April. Both times I took the tech for a ride, showed him the 3rd gear grind and he ordered the trans, no questions asked. They called me about a week later(both times) and I brought my car in. The install(swap) took about 7 hours. Both times I have had my car back the same day. Brought it in at 7am and picked it up at 4pm. If your dealer is telling you that it takes 2-3 days than they are Bsing you.... Another FYI, my 2nd new trans had a different part # then the 1st one... Nissan has also given me a free 7 year, 100k warranty on the whole car due to my problems, so don't let them tell you that they don't know about the problems..... I have almost 10,000 miles on this trans with no major problems(yet)....

mine used to be intermittent like that, mostly when cold, then 2 weeks ago it started to do it every time. If yours is when cold, you could leave it at the dealership overnite, then insist on riding with them and have them shift to 3rd at redline. That should do it.

I took mine into Gwinnett Place Nissan in atlanta last wednesday for the 1st time. They told me if it needed replacing it would be a couple weeks to order one. The tech drove it and confirmed it needed changing, then the service manager did some checking, and found they had one in stock for someone else, that that person was out of town and they could get the new one before they returned. They put the new one in my car that day and I was on my way!

My tranny intermittently grinds in 3rd. Like once every 2 weeks. It's not a redline either. It'll do it when I'm in a parking lot doing 10mph. After it grinds in 3rd, the next time I go into 3rd, it feels like my shifter is hitting something underneath. After a couple of miles it goes away.

It's also makes a clunking sound when going from 1st to 2nd gear when it's cold. First and 3rd gear are smooth when they are cold.

When I go to redline from first to second and shift as quickly as possible it grinds bad. But from 2nd to 3rd I do the same and it's smooth as hell. Same from 3rd to 4th. WEIRD.

Last time I took it in (about a week ago), they had it over night (to replace my scratched wheels) and they said they found nothing wrong with the tranny. I'm gonna have to leave it again and test it with ME in the car.

Last time they said my alignment was fine and my car wasn't pulling to the right, I took the tech out with me and proved him wrong. The dealers are almost always full of sh**.

If I were you then I will find another dealership to check for you. Some dealerships are just FULL OF ****. You can do service at any NISSAN TECH shop.
Quick updated for the new trany, It has been two days and it's still smooth. Thanks GOD!

I know InitialZ, I should go to another dealer. When I last left my dealer, I spoke with a service advisor other than the guy that takes in my car and he said that he (maybe along with others) has been in contact with Nissan about this trouble. He said Nissan is going to come out with a fix for the alignment issue. So what I don't wanna do is have another dealer replace my tires and have them where out uneven again.

What I did was call Nissan North America and reported my trouble since this is the 3rd time I take my car in for an alignment. I told the rep that when they come out with this "fix," they need to buy me new tires. So there is a complaint file open on this trouble with my car.

BTW, 3rd gear grinded again on the way to school just a few mins ago at low speed (like 20mph)!!!!!.

I hope it gets worse so I can duplicate the trouble when I get to the dealer.

Hi 99AllTurbo, I hope reported to Nissan North America will help you. I haven't heard about there are alignment issues to the Z too. I think Nissan is pretty good at after sales services. They will help you as long as you keep bugging them about it. Please let the people on the forum knows if Nissan happens to treat you shitty as in servicewise. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

We have replaced several trannies and yes there is a counter measure part that goes with it. Gee....what a great time to have a Nismo (or other) flywheel installed at the same time... Seems to be what my customers are doing.

It happened again this morning. It seems like it's happening once a day, but of course when I take it to the dealer, it prob won't grind third. And again, this is only at low speeds (under 20mph).

i used to have the 3rd gear grind when cold at low speeds (under 25) but since the weather got much hotter it hasnt been acting up. until i shift at high rpms (above 5k) to third it will grind like hell and then go into the gear. went to the dealer and reproduced the grind with the tech in car and then he drove and reproduced the exact same grind several times. he mumbled that i might need a new transmission so im assuming they will order one from nissan. see how it all turns out tomorrow.
