when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear, if i do not change the gear in a certain way( i have to hold the clutch in for about a second then move the shifter straight into third) it will slightly grind the gear. Has anyone had this problem? any ideas on how to fix it? It has been happening almost as long as i can remember.

 

When was the last time you changed tranny fluid?

 

That called a syncro going bad. Basically your tranny is shot and needs to be replaced or rebuilt.

Im on my third at 30K and its grinding too (but 6th).

 

how much do you think it would cost to get rebuilt or how much would a new one cost?

 

how old is your z and how many miles? do you still have a factory warranty or extended warranty... ?

 

I had mine replaced for 3500 dollars I think the bill came to be. It was under warrantee though

 

What? You've had 3 trannies? You must be rallying it or something.. What happened with the two that failed? A synchro went out?
