Rear Axle Clicking, need some help
Hey so after searching around I found that the clicking on my Z is due to the rear axle problem we have. My Z is an 05 base with 45k so its still under the factory powertrain warranty. So of course after reading that the axle lube/replacement is covered under nissans 60k warranty, of course the dealerships i called said its not. What im asking is for those of you who were in my current situation with an axle clicking problem that got it fixed under warranty to please tell me which dealerships (and location) you got yours done at. I plan to speak to the dealerships service dept. and ask them if they would cover it like they did yours, and if they say yes im going to go to my dealership and argue that its covered. Im pretty pissed that all 3 dealerships i called said its not covered, which im assuming their just too damn lazy to even bother with it. Im going to get this **** fixed for free, im not gonna let some a-hole dealership rip me 300+ dollars to lube up a damn axle.
I also have a warranty through my bank that would cover this no problem, but being that the dealerships already pissed me off im gonna make them pay for it

I had the TSB covered by the dealership with no problems at all. I'm not sure exactly where the line between yes and no can be drawn. I got mine done at about 26k miles on my 2005 base.
Your best bet is to use your warranty from the bank. That sound is annoying and your right 300+ bucks is rediculous to have to pay if it is under warranty. I couldnt get mine taken care of under warranty and didnt want to pay either but eventually the sound went away. Good Luck
I was denied by the dealership because my car had more than 30k miles and was more than I think three years old (it's an 04.5). This was a few months ago. They said TSB's aren't covered because they aren't mandatory.
I say find the tsb, print it out. I got denied and I showed them I did my research. They just shut up and did the work like they should. I went back 4-5 times and each time they lubed it which really annoyed me because after I got back home, the clicking was back. So just print out the TSB and tell them that this is a KNOWN problem and it states to REPLACE the rear axle. Hope this helps.
The dealership I went to also told me it was not covered by the powertrain warranty, I argue with them so they went and called up Nissan and it was covered by the powertrain warranty... I didn't pay a dime...

I had the TSB done on mine at 31,260 miles on my '05 and they did it with no questions asked.
I've got a PDF of the TSB if you want it. PM me your email and I'll send it.
(I had it done and Neil Huffman Nissan in Louisville, KY. Don't think you want to drive that far though!)

Just a note for future reference: regional posts are better answered in the appropriate regional forum.
thanks for the responses guys, actually very helpful
and for the regional thing i didnt really mind if it was outta my area as long as its an authorized nissan dealership then i figured the warranty should be covered universally.

Here's the TSB for the 2005. I had this done on my 2004 and they tried to make me pay for it as well. I had to go back in forth well them over the phone all day but they eventually agreed that it was covered under the warranty. The TSB even shows the claim information for the warranty, so don't let them tell you it's not covered.
If you do it yourself, make sure you have a good torque wrench. I believe the spec on the bolt is 250 ft/lbs. I re-torque mine everytime I swap my rims/tires after a track event. I also replace the cotterpins if they look like they've moved at all.
FYI: After my new hubs, I haven't had any issues.

I got my 04.5 from the US, and after going to my local Nissan complaining about the same issue - they said it wasn't covered... until I phoned NNA and complained and got a file #.
They sure fixed it promptly.

the proper torque, per the tsb I have seen, is 177 lbs. The tsb also says states that the grinding noise WILL reoccur (my emphasis) if not done to the proper specs. If anyone has better info, pls. let me know.
