Unhappy Tranny starting to give me trouble again. Time for a 2nd replacement.

Well, this tranny has been in for about 10 months. If you guys remember, I think I was the first or at least on of the first guys to get a tranny replacement (since I was one of the first people to actually get the car.) Well, for the first time in 10 months, this one started to grind on me in the 1-2 shift. Clutch to the floor, shift from 1st-2nd, nice grind!! WTF?? Repeated it more than once tonight testing out my Crawford Plenum.

When they replaced my first tranny, they put in the exact same thing. This was before the redesign. Now, I need the redesigned one. Gonna do one more track even on this one first though! I have a feeling they are gonna say I abused it, so to avoid the hassle I am gonna start another thread for people to post ONLY if they have had their tranny replaced. Thanks guys.

I thought I had one of the first cars, what vin is yours? Ive not had any troubles wonder if I have the redesigned one. mine grinds when using engine braking downhill in 1st or reverse. also sounds like a grind on startup...

I should probably get those things checked out, but I know theyll try to duplicate the problem and wont be able to, so I dont waste my time unless I can give them a diognosis myself.

My Vin is under 1000, but I have had my car I think the longest of any active member. 1yr on the 20th of this month.

I'm an hour and a half from you, but if your dealer gives you a hard time bring it to me. We have no problems with Mods in this store.

I think the thing is not that some people don't have tranny problems, they will if it is the original tranny, it is just a matter of time, I think that if you track or autox the car it just accelrates the failure, if you just street drive or occasioanlly drive it hard you will not fail as quick luckily the drivetrain warranty is longer than the 3 years.

I think that might be right. My 3rd gear grind was only intermittent, until I got the TS Ecu and did a few 7000 rpm shifts, then it became permanent.

Default raceboy,

Obviously you have read all of my posts about my 2 trans replacements but make sure you open a complaint with NNA. They had no problem giving me their best warranty when I complained about all my problems. My car also had some mods on it when I brought it in. I also have the phone # of the NNA engineer investigator that came to look at my car. And yes, their is a new part # for the new trans. They didn't even drive my car. I took the head tech for a drive and duplicated the 3rd gear grind. My mods included Injen cai, UR pulley, 86'd resonator, grounding kit, EIbacks and wheels.... I am actuaaly hoping this one goes so I can get a new Z. My first one lasted 4000 miles, 2nd one lasted 10,000 miles and now I have 11,000 on this one, I think its time

O.K. I will keep this short if I can. I do not know my vin, but I bought one of the first my dealer sold. Purchased last oct 30th. First tranny replace at 5k miles, second tranny replaced aprox 11,500 miles. 3rd tranny,(btw both tranny's experiaced 3rd gear grind) So the 3rd tranny is experiancing a problem with 5th gear, no grinding, but once engaged and doing approv 4000 -5000 rpm's the tranny will literally come out of gear. I recently took the car to fl for a week, and after excelerating in fifth, I would let off the gas, a couple of time I hit a bump, and the car popped out of gear. Forget driving dpwn the rode and resting your hand on the shifter, guarentee to pop out with out any effort.

SO I now have an open case with the BBB and am moving towards arbitration with nissan to replace the car. I drop the car off at the dealer this coming tuesday and leave it with the arbitrator from nissan to drive. Wish me luck. I love the car, but enough is enough, aside from the tranny issues, I have had it in for Grease windows, Tire feathering, Squeaking brakes, Clicking from rearend. All in all I just want the car replaced. I do drive the car hard, but no harder then I have driven all my mustangs.

No burnouts, or anything like that, just a very agressive driver, and the car should be able to handle it.

well thanks for listening.

I don't want Nissan to replace the car, but it would be nice to get something. Maybe a Nismo flywheel with the install of the tranny!

So far I have had

1 tranny replacement going on 2
Window Streaks
Creaking Axles
Driver's side window not dropping

Not too major, but for the tranny replacements. I will call Nissan on Monday before I take the car back to the dealer.

Steve,

Sorry to hear this one is going out. For some reason, I thought you were already on your 2nd replacement. I hope everything works out for you with this replacement. Maybe the newest rev of the tranny will fix your problems *crosses fingers*

Man, this takes me back to a year ago when everyone was waiting for your reviews. I had to wait a full month more before my car showed up. Now 2 replacements later...oh how it takes ya back

I've got about 3K miles on my new "redesigned" tranny and now it's starting to grind in 2nd just like the previous one did in 3rd. At first this tranny was smooooth...not anymore.

I'm hoping that my new tranny wasn't really a "redesigned" one...at least then I'll have hope for my next one.

Default Question

The 350z is a great car excpet for my horrible 3rd gear grind . How easy/hard was it to get your trans replaced? I already have taken it to my dealer where i purchased it and complained about the grind and they told me the car was perfectly fine and they "couldnt replicate the problem"
Any sugestions on what to do?
I plan on taking the service manager for a ride and grind the hell out of 3rd gear and see if he still says there isnt a problem.

I am currently on my 2nd tranny, the first one had a 1-2 grind. The new tranny, after 1500 miles or so, has developed the same 1-2 grind. I just got word a couple hours ago that my dealer got approval for a 3rd tranny. I'm hoping it goes out as well, if so, I'll run through another 3 tranny's next year as well!!! :-)

No sure how many if any are following this thread, but this is the tranny one that I will stay with there are to many out there to update, so here my saga continues with my tranny.

I took the car to the dealer this tuesday and the factory rep drove it and agreed with me that there is a problem with 5th gear. He said that there is an adjustment that can be made once the tranny in in place that will set the shifter deeper in the gearbox, he beleives that most of these cases are that the shifter in not seated all the way in which in turn will eventually burn out the syncros. so they are ordering me another tranny (4th counting the original) and I am going to persue that Nissan replaces the car. as stated earlier I love the car, but feel it is time ofr nissan to step up to the plate and deliver the goods.

When they called me and told me that they wanted to replace the tranny I told them to keep the car and give me a new one( mas stated before I do love the car). The service manager said they cannot do that they need to repair the car, then I can go to arbitration and ask for a replacement car, which is what I plan to do. I feel I have been faithful to Nissan, and gone through alot with this car, and after this tranny 4th counting the original, I meet the Georgia lemon law. So we shall see, and I will keep all ( if anyone is monotoring this thread)informed.

I just got 3rd gear grinding today. Really bad and very annoying. I now afraided to shift from 2nd to 3rd. The grind is really loud. I will call my dealer and talk to them about this. My car is Touring 6spd and has 6,650 miles on it. Hopefully they don't give me any problem with the AEM CAI and Borla Exhaust.

If ther dealer can replicate the issue you should not have ap problem with them replacing the trans. As for the exhaust and cai, that should not effect the warantee at all.

Good luck.

If you have a problem with your dealer, then take the car to Acme Nissan in South Brunswick, on rt 130. They have replaced my trans twicw with no questions asked....
