I took delivery on Oct 30, 2002.

By April, the car wouldn't shift into 3rd without grinding, unless you rev-matched very carefully.

6MT replaced May 8, 2003 at 6,000 miles.

(The dealership didn't adjust new tranny's shift gate properly, and it wouldn't shift into 5th and 6th. I brought it back, they fixed it.)

Well, since you're in Florida, and I'm in Maryland, you're not likely to know them. I don't want to name them because although it was annoying, and shouldn't have happened, they fixed it, and I don't want to give them a bad name for a simple mistake.

I now have owned two 350Z's. My first had the tranny replaced twice. The original tranny was replaced at 3000 miles. The second around 4000 miles. I also had an oil leak twice. This car was so unreliable I just bought another Z. My new one seems to run completely different than my preorder. I still haven't had problems with my new one.

Seems the problems happened on pre-order- mid year ordered cars. Have they fixed the problem or has this happened to the LATE 2003's

As you can clearly see my friend, some of us are on our 2nd and 3rd Trannys! Obviously it's more to do with "faulty" transmissions being im=nstalled as oppossed to VIN # of cars.

There are 15 or twenty here out of some 30,000 cars that were expected to be produced in the first year. (Obviously, there are many more with problems that are not reported here.)

My point is that the problem showed up in a tiny fraction of all cars, was fixed under warranty in those cars, and corrected in later models. So what's to worry about? The problem doesn't leave you stranded with a broken car. You just get grinding when you shift. Annoying, but not serious.

The worst that would happen is that you might be without your car for a couple of days while they fix it for free.

So chill.

had the tranny replaced at 6500 miles from a grind going into 3rd at high rpms. also was grinding occasionally in 6th. so far no problems, about 1k miles on new tranny. dealer was very cooperative and did not give me a hard time. sterling mccall nissan did the job (59 and west airport in sugar land)

I don't know about that. In my second transmission second and third gear were completely destroyed and would not engage. Fortunately I still had some gears left and was able to drive it back to the dealer immediately.

Wow. I'm reading this with great interest. I just took delivery of my 04 Z Roadster. I have previously owned to MT Maxima's: an 01 SE/AE and an 02 SE. I had no idea that the Z's were having these issues. I have about 1,000 miles and I've not had any indication that the transmission is anything other than ideal. My car was built in June. To those of you that have been following this- were there some major improvements or something that was done during the model run such that I should be "safe"? Please advise. Thanks so much for this info.

I beleive they have ironed the bugs out. I just got the car back from getting my 4th new tranny (counting the original). This time they had a regional tech come in and he said that once the tranny is installed they would need to adjust the linkage for the car. Not sure if this was done for the previous trannys, and not sure if it will make a diff, we shal see. Hopefully I will have the car replaced before there is a chance for another problem.
