i own a 08 base model with only about 14k miles on it. i think there is a transmission problem, because every time i put the car in gear and drive it sounds fine. but right when i take the car out of gear and into neutral and depress the clutch, the engine or transmission makes a clanking noise. i dont really know how to describe the noise, but it sounds like something under the hood is gargling screws.
and the suspension problem is every time i go over a slight bump or anything on my right rear axle, there is this clanking or rubbing noise. it sounds like two pieces of metal are clanking together.
i understand that my car is still under warranty, but i also know they hate working on cars, so does any one think they could help me?

any help would be deeply appreciated!!!!

 

take it to the dealership... in the earlier year models... yes the clutch/flywheel will sound like a box of marbles... if you press the clutch in, it will go quiet. this is a common trait of the Z; also the clunking when in and out of gear at a stop...if you are in the brand new GTR you will still hear a clunk when coming to a stop!.... but only you will know what is TOO much. As for your rear axle "click" take it to the dealer this was a TSB/warranty issue on previous models...

so bottom line - even if you don't want to - take it since you are still under warranty or you may end up regretting it if not.

 

Hey man I have a 2008 Enthusiast 6MT with only about 5500-5600 miles on it and i know what you're talking about with the rear axle deal. I thought it was my exhaust(i got the Bassani) was loose hitting some cross member or something. Maybe it is the suspension I don't know but when I'm going down the highway(which is sh**y here) for a little while I will hear the clunking. Let me know if you take it into the stealership if they help you or not ! GL

 

i have the same metallic *clunk* from the left rear over moderate+ bumps. guess ill take it in sometime soon.
