Do you guys have the BOSE system? Nissan is pulling those, because they are junk. Do not believe the Bose advertizing- it goes along with PT Barnum's thinking.
The replacements are Clarion (not much improvement, based on personl experience with Clarion equipment), but at least something better than the Bose stuff...

A while back, my non-BOSE CD player refused to eject a CD. I probably should have taken a hint and stopped trying when it intially refused to accept the disk... Oddly enough, it was a commercially made cd, not a cdr. It had unusually thick paint on the top, which (I think) the rollers have trouble gripping.
The dealer replaced the headunit, and advised me to not use that particular CD.
One irritating aspect of this headunit is the lack of internal clearance... On CDRs with paper labels (and those with expecially thick paint), I can hear the CD rubbing against the internals of the player as it spins... very annoying.

The same thing happened to me yesterday. It took the CD and all I could hear was the CD rubbing aginst something. No sound or anything. Then I turned the car off and back on, it started to play but kept skipping(CD has no scratches) so I put a new CD in and it was fine.
So maybe it was like you say the paint on the CD was to thick. This sucks becasue I never had this problem in any other car. BTW I have the non-Bose head unit
