My Z is a convertible, I was thinking it MIGHT be possible to fish a wire with a sort of hook on the end to pull the hood release latch...but that wouldn't be easy. I also have a 370Z and I'm planning to hide a small DC connector somewhere maybe in the grille or underneath that connects directly to the battery where I can send some power back into the battery. If I can design a decent way, I'll share it. thanks

Not sure what you were looking at, my Z has a disconnected battery and I lock/unlock the driver's door all the time with the key.

Well, I really don't think my door has been changed from original. The left hand door is the one with the key switch...the right side doesn't even have a place to put a key.
The LH key lock is just a switch with wires (that are too damn short, it's very difficult to put the whole shebang back together because of that) and there is no mechanical apparatus whatsoever connecting it to the rest of the mechanism. It's a 2004 350Z touring convertible...maybe they're different from the coupes? I don't know, My 370Z (also a touring roadster) may or may not be the same way, I haven't had to remove/replace the lock on it....

Mechanism is the same on the 350 and 370, the driver's side is mechanical hence the key hole. Probably easier to enter through the driver's side with the key if the battery is dead.
