Default Power Steering Fluid Leaking...

Hey guys,

My car has been sitting in the garage for 4 months cuz I was out of town for school reasons, so I just got home today and put a new battery in and started it...I noticed it was making a weird noise when I turned the tires so I checked the power-steering fluid, which was nearing empty and the rubber boot was covered with the fluid...

My question is...What would make the power steering fluid leak out?
And is it minor or a major issue?

Thank you!

well the boot is not making noise...but the oil is covering the boot..would the boot leak?...

Also...are there any hoses under that might have been leaking cuz the car has been sitting for 4 months now so the rubber pipe might have been corroded or something...

The boot does not leak. There are seals on the p/s rack that might be leaking from under neath the boot. Could be a hose as well that is dripping down onto the rack. Fill it up, clean the oil and look to see where it's coming from.

Thanks...I took it to a local mechanic and he said its the seal thats leaking and I need to get a new rack and pinion. I just ordered one for $205 so hopefully thats all it is...

Now I have another problem...trying to fit 305/35/18 on a 18x10" with +45 offset...haha
