Default Bose volume fluctuating. Dealer ordered part?

The dealer ordered a part to "fix" this. It isnt going to kill my bass is it? I like the bass the way it is. I just want the fluctuating to stop. Is there really a fix to this?

All depends what part they ordered. If it is the rebuilt amp then yes your bass will be affected. If it's just the mic or something else I doubt it will change.

Default Don't Let the Dealer do the Fix!

The fluctuation volume you talk about is something that was a problem on the Touring model in the early production runs. This was due to an overly compensating "volume adjusting system" installed in the Z. This "feature" is controlled by a small michrophone mounted under the steering wheel.

The "fix" that Nissan will provide is a replacement amp which will TAKE AWAY your bass. You do not want this. The later Touring models with the Bose systems have this new amp. It is a total disappointment..........I know, I have one. There is no bass and the system sounds very tinny. There are many, many people who are very upset about the performance of this system

Someone came up with a fix that you can do to disable the noise sensing / compensating system which is causing your sound fluctuation. The cost for parts is less than one dollar, and it will take you less than 1/2 hour to complete.

Go here for complete instructions:

The above information applies to 2003 Touring models. I have heard that the 2004 models do not have this problem, but I do not know this for sure.

If you have an early 2003, do the fix at the link. Believe me, you don't even want to hear the Bose system with the TSB replacement amp. It totally sucks.

I have adequate bass response in my 04 touring redline/frost. Much better than my 03 IS300 ever did. I'm only disappointed with the range of adjustment on Premium Bose system. Sometimes I notice the system gets too much bass and sounds muddy. Of course that could be reception in the Bay Area. IS300 had horrible reception with crackling. The 350Z could just washout and not crackle.
