Default Throttle Body Cleaning -vs- Replacing

So I had my SES light inspected at the dealer and they say I need a new throttle body at $220 and another $240 to install... I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard...

My idle has been a little rough and I plan on cleaning the throttle body to see if this will fix my idle problem and get rid of the the SES. Should I pull the whole assembly or just spray on the cleaner as per the directions on the can??

I think both have benefits: Off Car, I could clean it completely but have a bigger chance of F'ing something up. On Car, not as clean and smaller chance of F'ing some S the F up... haha

As always, thanks in advance...

usually when you see a light, its a warning for you that something could happen to the car, so i suggest you fix it...my opinion

$500 that would save you the trouble (and will be under warranty). i'd say it's worth more than u f***ing up something that might cost you even more to fix.

I'd pull it off. Much easier to clean that way.

Default TP Removal/Cleaning

Don't you have to go though the TP re-learning procedure if it is unplugged for cleaning?

I'd try cleaning it imo and see if that clears up the issue. Hell, if you have to buy and it install it yourself, you can save money.

i went to autozone and had to wait a day to get the TB gasket, but after completely removing the TB and give it a good rub-a-dub-dub.... the SES light went off and my idle is silky smooth!!!

the gasket is only $2 and i would recommend anyone that may be experiencing a rough idle and hesitation on accel to go ahead and pull the TB and clean it... pretty easy to do and well worth the 30-45 minutes

wow what did you use to clean it up that well. Is it true that you should not touch the butterfly?

unplug the battery FIRST, then take out the throttle body. use throttle body cleaner spray and qtips, then open the butterfly and clean the carbon buildup around that. reinstall and hook the battery back up then you dont have to do the throttle relearn..if you have to do the relearn put the key in and turn to on wait 5 seconds and go to off, do that 6 times
