Help: Viscous differential issue maybe?
I searched for common terms to look for solutions but couldn't seem to find any. Here's whats going on though:
So yesterday morning I was driving home after working for 16 hours at work. I was coming off of M6 onto M37 on the onramp and suddenly my rear diff locked up. It felt like I pulled the e-brake abruptly but I knew it was the limited slip because the light started to blink. It kind of surprised me but I just chalked it up to a wet slippery spot since it was raining. Well not 40 seconds later it did the same thing, only this time it released let me got a little bit more and did it again and continued to do it till I had completely stopped on the side of the road.
I shut the car off to reset and then turned it back on. I drove it home alright the rest of the way but I'm worried to take it anywhere.
Couple of things to note:
--I know I probably need new brakes soon because they screech horribly every time I stop but have never had a lack of breaking power or vibration when braking
--I looked at my front tires and the inner tread is worn down tremendously
--I just had the tranny replaced w/ a refurbished one due to grinding in gears w/ the past one (common problem since there had been 9 revisions on the tranny since the 1st year which is what my car is) I don't know if they replaced the differential with that or not. My guess is no. Only a few months before this though I had replaced all the fluid w/ extremely good tranny and gear oil.
I'm wondering if the front was slipping and the ecu were recognizing difference in speed it might have caused it but I don't know why it would go haywire like that for that long. It could be the brakes but it I don't think the back brakes are that bad, mainly just the front. It could just be a fluke.
Any thoughts?

Anybody got any inkling on what it could be?
I drove the car today in similar rain conditions and it didn't do it at all. I did however have the brakes act as if the ABS were coming on even though the system wasn't doing anything.
Throw out any ideas that I may be able to check out. I even went out and checked the blinker fluid

If the brake fluid level in the master cylinder res. gets too low (ie. your pads are worn so the fluid is lower) it will actually affect the VDC/ABS system. Try adding some brake fluid to the res. or just have the brakes done.
