P0335 Crank Pos Sensor A Circuit Malfunction
My '05 Z threw a Service Engine Soon (SES) light while at an autocross. Car seem to be running well otherwise. At home, my scan tool read out: P0335 cranshaft position sensor a circuit malfunction. I cleared it to see if it would happen again. Next autocross the car lit the SES again and I noticed that it would not rev past 4K rpm which is not a helpful thing at an autocross! Confirmed lack of rev capability while on the drive home.
Here's what I did to fix this: Put car on jackstand and pulled the crankshaft position sensor. Had to remove the plastic cover to get good access. This sensor is on the driver's side of the bellhousing close to the block/bellhousing interface. The sensor had a thin film of clutch dust on it which I cleaned of with a rag. I inspected the hole where the sensor sits and didn't see anything amiss -- could even see one of the slots the sensor targets. No fluid leaking, no other issues noted. I simply replaced the sensor, used the scan tool to clear the code, disconnected the negative battery terminal and let it sit overnight before I reconnected. Upon testing the next day, no issues revving any more.
