Default Cleaning Cold Air Filter

I have a cold air intake (unsure about manufacturer) and was wondering what I can use to clean it. Can I use K&N's filter cleaner kit? Is there a generic air filter cleaning kit I can purchase? Did Nismo make a single cold air intake? Forgive me, the prior owner has done some questionable things to the 350 so I'm questioning the "NISMO" sticker on the intake pipe.

Thanks for any advice!

after you clean your filter be sure not to over oil your filter, if you do you will have a lot of problems, like me.

use K&N filter cleaner. I'm sure there are others that work just as well, but I recently oiled my K&N with a generic brand from Autozone. The cleaner solution barely did anything, and the oil was colorless, so it was difficult to tell what areas were over and under saturated.

If it's a Nismo brand intake, I don't think it's supposed to be oiled at all. I know my dual Nismo intake isn't supposed to be oiled.

You should post a pic of your intake for us to see. I'm sure some of the tech guys up here can help you as soon as they see the intake. If you have no idea on what your intake is, this would be the best way to ask for correct help. Just my .02

I have two recommendations if you're going to clean your filter.

1. Buy a second one to swap in while you wait for the original one to dry.
2. Don't go crazy with when you re-oil the filter. Drop a few spots here and there, let it soak. Then go back and hit the spots that are still dry. Repeat until it's fully oiled.

I dunno how many times I've heard, "i can't drive my car, waiting for the filter to dry" or "i over oiled the filter and now i got oil all over the MAF".

I'm pretty sure now it is a Single Nismo Intake for 03-06.

In the past when I have oiled a filter, I completely saturate it with the oil, then sit it upright (flutes vertical) on top of towel. After 24 hours, the excess oil pools at the bottom and is absorbed by the towel. I'll usually pull my MAF out and inspect my intake after a few days of driving and again after a few weeks, and to date, I have never seen any oily residue.

I'm sure there are better methods out there, but this works for me.

That works too. Atleast you're careful about it.

I wash the filter in a bucket of soapy water.
Rinse.
Dry.

If you apply too much oil to the filter, the sensor element inside the MAF housing might get oil on it. Incorrect air flow reading is the result.
