A couple of weeks back, I shut the hatch on my 2004 touring z and it wouldn't latch. So I pulled the back apart and located the "back door opener actuator" and it looked like the metal arm (that pulls the latch to open the locking mechanism to release the trunk) did not have enough play to allow the mechanism to return to where it would lock. I took the "back door opener actuator" apart and realigned the gears inside the motor, and put it back together. I guess they had become stuck or something (your guess is as good as mine) and re-installed it today. The hatch works like it should now, so I hope it's fixed, the actuators are around 180 in Oklahoma. I hope this helps anyone who might have this problem, or am I the only one? Haha. This happened on one of my other cars and all I did was spray down the "latch assembly with WD-40 and it worked perfectly.

 

I didn't take any pics, sorry, but if you've got the service manual (I think it's pretty easy to find on the net, I could be wrong because I got mine in 04) the diagrams get the job done.

I was hoping spray would work too, but the latch wouldn't even lock with the hatch up
