Grind when shifting into 5th?
Hey so this has just started to happen recently.
When I shift, its smooth in every gear, EXCEPT when going from 4th to 5th.
It makes this grinding sound, and it feels like I'm forcing stick into the 5th position.
Any ideas? A serious problem? I'm a noob lol.
Me and my friend think it might be that adjustable guide plate thing.
But with my luck, its probably something worse haha.
Anyways I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

No its an 04, so no more warranty lol it ended in December :/
If I shift slowly from 4th to 5th, no problem.
If I shift at normal speed, then I hear the grinding.
I guess I'll have my mechanic take a look. *****. lol.

*****. haha. If that's the case, I think I'm not even going to bother and would rather just sell the car as is and go for a newer Z (still not too fond of the 370 that much but its growing). Blah. I guess I'll see what my mechanic tells me.

You should check your tranny fluid and make sure it's still within specs. If you haven't changed the tranny fluid since you bought the car, I would recommend doing this as well.

I have a 04 and my 5th grinds as well. It has 87k miles on it and I doubt the tranny fluid has ever been changed. I need to do that to see if it helps. I have heard different opinions about changing the tranny fluid, some say it helped, some dont so idk.

Thanks. I'll check into that. I changed it about 30K miles ago. Used Redline Oil when I did it. But I'll take a look.

it's true.
trannies are weird like that.
if you have high mileage and the tranny has never been serviced regularly,
I would leave it alone. believe it or not, the old dirty tranny fluid may be what's holding it together.
i am not sure if that goes for manual trannies tho.
due to automatics being the dominant type of tranny, i've only dealt with complaints stemming from automatics.

Can anyone confirm if this is true?

Ok, so I finally got around to changing my tranny and diff fluid. Stayed with Redline Oil, and seems the problem with 5th gear grinding has gone away. Will continue to monitor though.
