I am currently on my 3rd tranny. I definitely have a notchiness going into 2nd gear. It grinds in 2nd when being pushed to the limit. I am going back to Nissan to request a replacement or refund of the entrie vehicle, its been into the shop more these past 11 months that I have had any car in the shop for the last 10 years.

I get a clunky feel when I engage the second gear. I also get it in other gears although I not exactly sure which. Probably 3rd and 4th not 5th or 6th. It's not something that I would bring to the dealer but I'm wondering if it will lead to grinding later on.

Now the idiots at 1800Nissan1 said that the current dealer that I took the Z to said that I was shifting too late at 7000 RPM's and thats why my tranny was grinding. What a load of BS! The bad thing is, the service manager that went on the test drive quit yesterday so he is no longer able to verify what he did or didn't say!!!! They never ordered a repair, even for my streaking windows, now they are saying my warranty may be void since I am abusing my car. WOW, what a turn of events! I even asked the service manager what he thought, he said he had no idea what was wrong with it. What a joke!

I too feel there is something seriously wrong with 2nd gear. It's getting colder out, but it feels very mechanical, very "notchy" I would say going into second. Definately feels like a synchro getting caught up or something initially doesn't line up correctly when the cogs touch each other? I don't know but it is seriously frustrating me lately. I pretty much felt it from day 1. Brought it up 1 time they said they couldn't reproduce, it was normal.

Here is something I found out recently,
There is a 3rd Clevis Pin out. Which is suppose to be longer than the second one. As for the roomer about 3rd transmission, THERE IS NO 3RD TRANSMISSION.
This New Clevis Pin does not even have the part number yet. It is being released as we speak.
This should take care of 2nd & 3rd gear grind.
I already talk to the person who had this installed and he said that he has no more grind on 2nd any more.
I am getting mine installed in about a week. I will give you an update.
I really hope this solves mine 2nd gear grind.

Please keep us up to date.
I originally thought that I was the only one having this problem.
I even switched to synthetic tranny oil to try and fix it and nothing. I took it to the dealer and they told me "nothing was wrong". The only way, that I have found, to avoid the grind(notch) is to blirp the gas when shifting. This goes for down and up-shifting. I'm going on 11,000 miles and I've had this from day one. If nothing is ever fixed, at least there is a 5/60k powertrain warranty to make me sleep better at night.
