So now that it's started to get cold out, I get into my car in the morning and depress the clutch, and there is almost NO resistance for about half of the length it can travel. Then the remaining distance has normal resistance. As the car warms up, the clutch engagement point moves higher and higher until eventually it is back to normal, and the slightest depressing of the clutch pedal begins to engage/disengage the clutch.
Please tell me this is normal...

have you checked the clutch fluid? Dont know if it would cause this or not...could be a bit low though, when my master cylinder leaked out and i had no fluid, there was no resistance all the way from top to bottom.

I don't know what year Z you have, but there is a recall on '07 "faulty" clutch slave cylenders, resulting in weak clutch pedal operation and/or improper clutch engagement. I started to have this issue this weekend so I looked up the recall and VINs included. NOTE: I believe this is an internal issue, exhaust/ bell housing must be dropped to service. If there is anyone who has had the recall replacement service done, I would appreciate info on their experience/satisfaction/results etc....FLYLOW

Andrew - best thing to do is flush the clutch fluid completely and replace it with fresh fluid. While you're there, might as well flush the brakes completely too. Both use brake fluid. Brake fluid, by it's nature, is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture. As it absorbs moisture over time, it's ability to deal with heat and it's compressibility decreases significantly. Replacing the fluid is a pretty quick and painless affair, not expensive, and will ensure that everything is working as it should.
Once you've bled the system check the position of the rod attached to the clutch pedal, and you can adjust the freeplay back to the specs set forth in the factory service manual. This way you know it is engaging/disengaging when it should

I got this issue before aswell. Took it in to get flushed with dot 3 and now works fine. It did it again maybe 1 time since but that was shortly after the flush. Although I have not checked the freeplay as Z1 mentioned. I think I might do that just to make sure. Hope this helped
