You're engine will be fine. Most modern engines, the vq being one of them has the ability to modify timing if it senses knock or ping. Is it optimal for permformance? No

The dealer filled me up with 87 when I picked it up new off the lot... needless to say I wasn't very happy but it's not the end of the world.

Yup, and reading the posts from the ignorant people is almost priceless.

um.....so he gets to 88 or 89? Still will cause timing to be changed, still will cause decreased performance, and will make him waste more money

Like I said above don't waste anymore money, just do what everyone in here is saying AND what your owners manual says......run it out slowly, don't floor it and don't make a habit out of it!

Yea...of course he run it slowly and such, but since the mistake was made wouldn't any help be better than nothing? He's gonna waste what, 5 bucks more???

Thanks for the welcome. There is nothing like accelerating from the apex of a curve in a nice vehicle as the Z...

it will not hurt ur engine ...

use up 87 and pump 91 again...

i think my cousin did that to my car when he borrowed it last time..

i read somewhere and someone said that the engine will adjust it or whatever.. but the conclusion is... it will not hurt ur car.. but dont do it often...

They are a waste. They don't really increase your octane, they decrease your HP, and they can eat through your fuel system. I used to love them, thought they did alot of good. Once your find out there is no control on what they say/claim (MPG increase and octane increase) and once you find out you loose HP....they are nothing but a waste.

Follow up: Well, I drove my car easy and no pinging or hiccups. It seems that the timing was adjusted. After I filled up with 91 octane (california highest octane), it ran with more pep. Love my Z. Thanks for replies...
