Default Clutch Engage Problem?

Let me ask those who have a 6MT, if your Z is in neutral and you let off your clutch pedal, is there a kind of whirling consistant noise when idling? If you let off the clutch pedal very abruptly when in neutral, does the car slightly move? And when you press the pedal back in, does the sound go away? I can get video of the noise if needed.

My car has done this for quite some time, at least a year, and I happened to drive another Z today and this car did not do this at all. No other manual trans car I have had has done this either. 53,000 Mile, on 3rd transmission, new clutch installed by dealership @ 49,000 miles.

Dont know about WHIRLING but I have chatter.. My car doesn't move if I'm in neutral and let off the clutch..

I do have an aftermarket clutch though -

If your under warranty - just get it fixed..

3rd tranny! WTH? And I believe my clutch went out about the same time - about 55K..

I think I know what your talking about, when in neutral it does sound like a whirl noise that's consistent with the idle, kinda like your fan turned on, right? Then you press the clutch and it goes away? That's just the clutch chatter, it's normal, all Z's have it, some louder than others, but trust me, it's there!

For the second question about the car moving... I have a problem when I'm like in second gear coming to a stop sometimes, I put the clutch in and it feels like a big bang and the whole car shakes, sort of like something is loose(I'm thinking it could be a motor mount or tranny mount, but I'm no mechanic, so I'ma take it to the stealership).

I've always had clutch chatter... It's worse now, with the ACT ProLite flywheel.

Don't know how the car will move in neutral. The transmission is supposed to be disconnected from drive train. THe transmission must be broken.

I would have punched my mother in-law in the face if she did that to me!

Thanks for the replys! Sounds like the noise is common. The car only moves 1/2 inch or so and that's it and only does so when the clutch pedal is let off quickly. I'll get some vids today, maybe you gys can tell me my car sucks and it's broken. After 3 transmissions in 12,000 miles, I'm freakin paranoid.

Well everything seems to run fine on the car other than that annoying clunking noise and the shake... but i took it to the dealer and tell them to look at it all the time when i go in for an oil change and they say yea but they never do... but next time ima raise a lil hell there! ...

Just take it there and let them know specificly whats going on... And ask to explain it to a tech not a service writer, cuz they'll probably ignore it, just like they did me... GL bro!

never should the car move with the transmission in neutral.

are you sure you're not on a slope or maybe there is a bump your tire rests on when you park?

When the car is in neutral the transmission should not engage the output shaft thereofre you could push the clutch down and move your foot to let it slam back up and the car won't move....unless something is broken.

it's either in your mind or something is broken.

It doesn't move when it's in neutral really...

Let's say I'm in first or second, and I'm going maybe 15-20 mph and you press the clutch, instanly right when you press the cluth you feel the shake and then immedeatly the clunk follows... I know it's not normal and I personally think it's a mount or something... but like i said im no mechanic so ima take it in....

oh, well that i'm not sure about. I'd have to hear it. It might just be the clutch disengaging.

I was confused on the whole "car moving when in neutral" thing.

not really. had heard about a problem like you have. may be you need to get the clutch plates near to each other. there may have some space evolved in between. and whirring is often

transmission is new. There is no problem with it.

the clutch was welded to the flywheel and i had to pry it off. The inspection says it's fine and needs to be cleaned up to use.

I installed an OS giken twin disk while i was waiting for the clutch and everything is fine. I'm going to keep this 6 puck as a backup in case something happens to my OS.

I also noticed the noise in neutral when i engage/disengage the clutch. A friend of mine with a Z told me that it was common in Z's and that its just the throwout bearing . . . stupid noisy nissan transmissions
