Default The Nissan Touring Rims suck !

I have almost 8500 miles on my 350Z, its not my daily driver, but I will be forced to make some tire choices soon, as my rears are almsot gone (4/32 left). I have gotten new fronts already courtesty of Nissan and the feathering issues.

Here is my problem... everytime I get any tire/wheel related work donew, the factory rims get damaged. I already had the left front redone before i got new fronts installed by my dealership, and now I got the car back and both front rims are damaged again. They even showed me their tools (all were rubber covered), and they told me how careful they have to be with these model rims, but still they got damaged. How in the hell do you do tire work on this car without messing up the rims everytime ???

It costs me $100 per rim to refinish theseat the local shop, and I don't want to be doing this everytime I get new tires... this whole situation suxxx, and Nissan should be ashamed about selling such fragile/crappy finished rims on a vehicle of this nature.

well i would have the tire shop pay for damages. you should not have to pay $100 each time to fix damage that they did. maybe go to a wheel specialty shop that has better mounting machines. i would assume that if they are scratching the nissan rims, they would be scratching any type of rim.

when I was changing out my Performance wheels for my aftermarket wheels, my Discount Tires guy told me the Performance Wheels (same as Touring 18"), are made by the same mfg. (factory plant) as Konig... which imo, Konig are pretty cheap wheels..

this is what I was told...

Don't get me wrong...I have no issues with the styling of the rims and I think they look fine on the car. If a nice set of rims didn't cost $2k, I would change them out yesterday.... but I dod feel that the finish is fragile and the overall quality of the build and finish is poor. I am not sure if Konig makes the rims for Nissan or not, but the finish on these is by far the most fragile of anything I have ever seen. I wonder why Nissan opted for painted rims versus the standard alloy look...I prefer the alloy look myself and os does everyone else by the looks of people's rim upgrades. I will avoid rims that are painted with this finish in the future.

I wonder what type of finish is on the stock G35 rims...I may try to pick up a set of them, if they have a better fisish.

Find yourself a shop that sells alot of specialty wheels and they will have the "touchless" type tire changer. Even though your dealer may have rubber coated tools they may not be able to use them correctly along with the machine they have.

It is possible for the tire itself to cause some minor scratching if they allow the tire to rub the rim rather then stretching the tire over it.

My dealer sends all their tire work out to a shop.

Well, I had the same thing happen my OEM Rays wheels. The dealership screwed the rims up when they flipped the tires around per the TSB. They are having them completely refinished this week.

Unfortunately, it is taking longer than expected so my car is in the shop all weekend.

However, the service manager was nice enough to set me up in a brand new Infiniti FX35 for the weekend!

Thats right. They are not using the right machine. The machine necessary for the Z, Murano, Armada, Titan is a "touchless" type as mentioned above. It is like 10G's and your dealer has yet to spring for it. My tires/rims have been mounted/dismounted twice and not a scratch.

My track wheels have those scars, and they were done with the proper Hunter machines. What it really takes is an experienced technician to remove the tires, as with that size wheel and tire sidewall, it takes some skill.

Ouch! $800! That doesn't sound like a very good solution to me! I agree with John. All it takes is someone who gives a rat @$$ about other peoples shiznit!
