Default THIS IS SHOCKING!!!

Every time, and I mean EVERY time I get out of my Z, I get a shock when I shut my door. I assume this is because my right elbow builds up static electricity on the plastic console on my right. Does anyone else experience this and if so, what is the quick fix? Do I maybe have an electrical leak or surge in my car?

lemme know.

I have gotten that on every car that I have owned as well. It is always worse when the humidity is low. I would suggest closing the car door by pushing the door shut using the window - just push on the window just above the door.

Default If it bugs you....

If it bugs you you might be able to reduce the shock.

There is a conductive spray used to reduce static build up in areas where people handle electronics. It is mildly conductive and prevents the static charge from building up in one area.

I think it might work if you sprayed some on the seats and carpet. It would essentially ground you to the same potential as the car's body and prevent the zap.

There are also small conductive rubber straps that you can hang from the bottom of the car to drain charges built up while driving. If you hid in near the moddle of the car it wouldn't be very visible to outside viewers.

For me the static shock is really bad with synthetic (nylon etc) coats. I rarely wear synthetic coats anymore and I almost never get shocked wearing my leather jackets.

doesn't happen to me in my Z. Maybe its because i have leather?? but always happens on the 4runner with cloth seats. Also noticed it seems more prevelant on black/dark cars

I think most leather is very slightly conductive so if your coat or your seats are leather you are less likely to get a zap. (but it is still possible).

Synthetics (nylon, rayon, etc) are the worst. If you have synthetic/cloth seats and a sythetic jacket you are gonna get zapped unless you do some mods.

I use 'Static Guard'..A light dusting on your seats and this will solve this. In your grocery store with laundry products.

You could also just make sure you are touching the metal of the door as you exit the car, or touch your key to the metal of the door somewhere right after you leave contact with the car.
