Default What happens at 60,000 miles?

I want to start this as a thread on major repairs and their costs.

As these cars age, what are the typical repairs needed (AC, steering, transmission, etc), when do they usually show up (40k miles, 70k miles, etc.), and what are typical repair costs.

I am sure our collective experience can yield very useful information for both current owners and potential buyers. Please contribute your experiences.

I'm at 76k and I need to replace my motor mounts. Probably going to go with megan racing motor mounts or something since the dealership wants to charge me 1100 for the job.

Parts alone for stock motor mounts were 500+ because it comes with the cross member.

Also it's a pretty difficult DIY if you don't have the right tools.

^^^ Nice pic....but nothing as long as you have been taking care of your car.Do not listen to a dealer or shop that says you have to do the 60,000 mile service as it is usually a rip off.But fluid replacements are a def rec at certain intervals.

OP, are you familiar with the phrase "your actual mileage may vary". Same goes for repairs - everybody will get different results. Sure, if hundreds or thousands of us report failures, we can graph them and get a bell curve of life span. My question is, who is going to do all that tracking and analysis to get meaningful numbers out? Otherwise, you've got nothing but a thread of anecdotal evidence that's impossible to read.

If you want to see what the Nissan engineers have determined from this very same exercise, check out this thread..

BTW - you really failed by not posting this in the proper forum to start with (Maintenance & Repair). As you can see by the childish responses, it's not taken serious.

Sure I'm familiar. I wasn't looking for statistical analysis. I just wanted to start a conversation on the subject.

Your thread is very helpful. I just wanted to hear what owners had to say.

I guess so. Sorry for the fail. As much as I like Bosch, those were not the type of answers I was looking for.

I'm at 60k.

Repairs I have done...
- Driver side window motor - Parts only. Don't remember cost but probably less than $100.
- Throttle body (Probably my fault for trying out lower octane gas) - Think it was about $300 for the dealer to do it.
- Hatch struts - Parts only (~$86)
- Brakes (two sets on front and one in back) - Dealer did front and back for about $250. I did the front for about $35.
- Changed both belts - Didn't break but could see some cracks on one of them. - Parts only (Think around $30)

Did the major service at 45k miles instead of 30k and will do it again at 80-90k.

Have gone through 3 sets of front tires (Nissan paid for 1) and 2 sets of rears. On my 4th sets of front tires and 3rd set of rear tires (Just changed them before 60k).

Good idea but variables are significant :

Members with 100,000 miles are driving with the original wheel bearings. On the other hand, one season of autocross will kill wheel bearings.

Suspension components (springs and dampers) begin to deteriorate at about 60,000 miles. I have no objective test data, but replace both and the Z will feel like a different car.

OEM clutch and flywheel are extremely reliable. If I remember correctly I replaced both at 60,000 miles after 5 seasons of drag racing. No drag racing and they should last forever.
