What does the extended warranty cover? From what I understand... a lot of extended warranties only cover certain parts that if they were to break... would have already broken by the time you're buying the extended warranty... so you're basically only buying a warranty for good parts that are most likely going to last anyway.

I would rather sell than buy extended warranties. I think there is more profit in the selling part. In fact I am sure of it.

id buy it if your looking to keep the car. maf sensors can go expensive to replace practically pays for the warranty in itself... if you have a roadster your top could go bad and need replacing thats like 2-3k right there. anything could go wrong even if it has not already... thinking because it havsnt broke yet its not going to break outside warranty is stupid...

basically its up to you peace of mind knowing your covered for expensive repairs or taking a risk and wasteing money cause nothing went wrong...

what are you paying for an extended warranty?

As I said, it depends on what the warranty covers... and it's not like the extended warranty lasts forever either. Just thinking about how the extended warranties make money... makes it clear as to why they're usually not worth it.

Default Nissan's extended warranty

when it comes to roadster's, Nissan's extended warranty doesn't cover the top, and from doing some deeper research there aren't many extended warranty companies that actually cover the roadster top.

I work for BMW so it's not the same as whatever company Nissan uses most likely, but from my experience the things that customer come in for are things that are not usually covered under a third party warranty. For the most part, they are only going to cover major issues, engine/trans replacement, and other major components. Trims, convertible tops, aesthetic components, lights, etc are not covered. More often than not it isn't worth it.

You definitely need to check out the reputation of the car warranty company before making any decision. Just take a look at US Fidelis in Wentzville, MO if you want to see a perfect example of the kind of company you don't want to do business with. They are now in bankruptcy and it appears the two owners took about $65,000,000 out of the company over the past two years. Just imagine how much warranty work could have been done with the money they withdrew.

I've never bought an extended warranty and don't think I ever will.

Who do you have your warranty with??

F34RL355: I'm not certain as to the price. haven't looked into that yet. i'm still debating as to whether its worth it or not. I don't race the car and the car is stock (except for spacers and K&N filters), so i hope parts will last. From past experience, i've bought a used Honda and the prior owner bought the warranty. He had all the receipts and the car was in immaculate shape. Then in the middle of rush hour traffic in NYC, my tranny goes and after pulling up the guys receipt, the trany job alone paid for it. that was about 6 years ago, though.
my first stop would go to the dealership and then shop around elsewhere.

+1

you are buying a carefully calculated gamble, much like insurance. odds of actually having a cost beneficial work order completed under extended warranty (pulls numbers out of his ***) are probably 1 in 4.

If you car is modded- forget about the warranty. How many miles do you have on your car? After a certain mileage the warranty will not cover wear and tear items- You'd be surprised what the warranty company considers wear and tear. Ball joints, exhaust manifolds etc. after a certain milage point-items like these werent covered.

i got 25K now, put on about 12k a year. i agree, they like to play games. besides that one time tranny job under extended warranty, i have no other experience, although i've heard some stories from friends and family of how easy it is to play games with warranties. HELL....even the dealer will play games with what's covered and not covered under the factory warranty.
Car's not modded, except for wheel spacers and drop in air filters.
that's why its such an intriguing question. is it worth it. i plan on keeping the car for a while but want to do it smartly.
