I bought my Z brand new in 2007 and have done changed the oil myself on a regular basis every time its been changed. I use the same oil/filter combo each time with no problems (Royal Purple 5W-30/K&N Filter).
I just changed the oil this weekend and it seems that the oil pressure is running a bit low or at least that I remember it possibly running a bit higher than it is now. Its running about 90 while I'm heavy on the throttle, about 15 when idle, and at about 50-60 when doing normal acceleration and/or at cruising speed.
I never noticed what the car was running at before because I never really paid attention to it. Are these normal levels and I'm just being paranoid or is it something I should look into?
please read your owner's manual, mainly the section concerning gauges.
ENGINE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE
The gauge indicates the engine lubrication system
oil pressure while the engine is running.
When the engine speed is high, the engine oil
pressure is also high. When it is low, the gauge
indicates the low oil pressure.
This gauge is not designed to indicate
low engine oil level. Use the
dipstick to check the oil level. (See
“Engine oil” in the “8. Maintenance
and do-it-yourself” section.)
If the gauge needle does not move
with the proper amount of engine oil,
have the vehicle checked by a
NISSAN dealer. Continued vehicle
operation in such a condition could
cause serious damage to the engine.
I was just driving home from work and was really watching the pressure like a hawk. After the engine has warmed up, the pressure drops significantly.
10 during idle
30-35 during moderate acceleration and/or cruising
60-65 during more aggressive acceleration
What's your idle rpm 750 or below ? - every turn count to keep the pressure. 10 psi is marginal to low ( at idle 750 rpm )
You could also use another viscosity ( i.e 0W-40) to improve the pressure.
But i would prefer to visit a Nissan dealer and let them check the engine.
Sounds fine, just double check the level, and make sure the gauge is reading ok. The sending units get a little shakey after they get some mileage. And if you want more pressure try a slightly more viscous oil, 5-40, 10-30 or 10-40.
I just recieved a 2007 350 for a gift and it runs great although my oil pressure is scaring me as I am new to the z’s its 10-15 at idle and never goes above 60 when I get on it accepting hard, it hits 50 around 3500 and goes to 60 at full throttle and doesn’t go past 60, I’m a worried

I would check your oil pressure sensor first but a achilles heel of the HR engine is the oil gallery gasket. They disintegrate over time and you lose oil pressure as oil seeps around the gasket.
This would be a high priority fix as oil and oil pressure is the lifeline of any engine...
This is common problem on the HR and the fix should be well-document

I dont know (for certain) if that's the smartest move as you are under-oiling your components. If you drove it to the shop to have it fixed you'd probably be ok but if you put more thank 500 to 1000miles you are probably doing damage to the engine.
5w-30 is definitely the oil you should use for starters. Not sure why someone would use a thinner oil.
And let me stress something here. Like bealjk says, the gallery gasket is a common fail on the HRs. And it does drop the oil pressure significantly. Eventually the oil pressure will be nearly 0 at idle. Happened to me.
The stress part I mentioned is this: if you own an HR engine, it has the factory gallery gasket, and you experience losing oil pressure over time, it's the gallery gaskets. It's not the sending unit. It's not whatever else the internet tells you. IT IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE GALLERY GASKET.
I've been through the trial and tribulation with wasting my money replacing parts. I drove the dang thing with a broken gasket for hundreds of miles. Until I said **** it.
Drop the oil pan and you'll see a piece of the gasket broken off in it. Then you'll know
Purchased an 08 about 2 weeks ago. Runs good with no knocks or ticks but was wondering about oil pressure at warm idle. After countless videos and threads, I believe this is considered low? Any way to check if its definitely the gallery gaskets? If so, is the $1000+ repair worth it with a 135k motor or better looking for a low mile swap?

TY in advance!
At Warm Idle
Get an external gauge and test the oil pressure. You must be running 5W-30 and have the engin fully warmed up to get an accurate reading. Harbor freight sells a reasonably priced gauge with the needed BSPT adaptor. If you get a low mile swap if it hasn't had the gaskets replaced they will fail or already have failed.

is this a issue with the DE motor as well or only HR ?
