Default whistle/tranny/rear end/ gear whine?

I have a 2004 w/ 42k miles manual tranny. Everything works perfect except getting some noise. I know about the throw out bearing noise at idle and stop when push clutch in. Also I know about when it's cold outside get a whirling wind noise for few minutes or mile and goes away.

The thing i'm curious about is I get little bit of whine either letting off the gas or cruising at low speed 1st, 2nd, & 3rd gear. I'm not to concerned about that, But 4th gear when letting off the gas exactly between 30-35 mph i hear a whistle/whine noise that's notieable. If i apply gas through thru those speeds i don't hear it.

Anyone know if this is common/normal? Or know what it is? Or solution how to fix it?

Thanks guys!

Replace the rear differential. That should take care of it.

Nobody has this similar thing? Changing the rear differential seems a bit extreme. Any common things. Fluids, components, what's actually casuing the sound. It kind of sounds like its coming from up front but sometimes the rear, hard to tell. It's not very loud just enough to hear and shifts smooth, never grinds, no slipping, etc. It's like a whistle sound. Some of the gears can here it barely. 4th gear much more noticeable exactly between 29-36 mph when letting off gas. Accelerating thru those speeds can't hear it.

I have a similar whine that comes from my car, but the whine is prominent even if I'm accelerating. I notice though after I've been driving for a bit and the car warms up, the sound goes away. I took it to dealership two weeks ago because of a different problem and they tried to make some bs excuse that it was coming from the clutch, and they wanted me to replace my clutch.

I'll let you know if changing the rear differential helps, considering I have a base and I just bought a Quaife LSD. I noticed that my whine got louder, more noticeable after I got my transmission fluid change so maybe the place I went to messed up.

I hear the same noise at highway speeds on my 06 base Z 6mt w/30k miles. When I cruise on the freeway and take my foot off the gas I car hear the same whiney noise from the rear as well. My buddy has an 02 bmw 330i 5mt and his is more noticeable with 100k miles on it.

I was thinking of changing my final drive ratio to 4.0 later on and maybe the noise will go away, or possible get worse. We shall see...
