Default Window Grease Streak TSB revisited....

I have an 03 Z that was assembled in July of 02. In April of 03 Nissan released the now infamous "Grease Streak: TSB. For those unfamiliar, it was basically to address a problem where the lube mechanism of the windows would leave a vertical vaseline like streak on the window.

Several owners who had this Technical Service Bulletin addressed, complained of dealers goofing up the window motor drop down function and various other problems with the window after this work was done. In light of this, and since I washed the car so often, I figured I would simply live with it.

Flash ahead now 8 years, My drivers side window motor is bad and needs replaced (I am looking for a cheaper place to get a motor since the dealer is charging me $318.00 parts and over $300 labor. If anyone knows where I can get this part please let me know and I'll replace it myself.).

Anyway, since they will already have the window taken apart I figured they could just do the TSB now. The dealer is charging me to do the work. They said that since it wasn't a "recall" they don't have to do it for free. Is this correct? I thought TSB work was free of charge? It's only like $20.00 but it's more of a principle at this point.

Anyone know for sure?

Thanks!

Bonz!!! Long time no see (here).

Unfortunately, you're out of luck. A TSB is nothing but a set of special instructions to the dealer/tech on how to solve a problem. It's not required work like a Recall would be. If you're in warranty, then the TSB is done for free under warranty, if out of warranty you get the bill.
