How do you manually open the gas lid?

According to the '07 service manual, the hatch release mechanism and the fuel filler door release share a ground connection. If the connection is bad, the fuel filler door won't open and the hatch release motor will be stuck wherever it was when the connection failed.

Check section BL of the SM for your year.

You can remove the jack and reach into the side of the body and release the gas lid

Is that described anywhere in the service manual or owner's manual? I couldn't find anything about it when the subject came up in an earlier thread about an inoperative fuel filler door.

Cool Fuel Door Latch Alignment

I found that there was a misalignment of the latch mechanism which was binding the fuel door latch even though the accuator mechanism was working. To fix this you can almost close the fuel door and use a flashlight to check for latch alignment. If it being bound up (like mine was) you can loosen the two philips screws holding the door hinge and very slighly rotate the door to release the latch binding.

When I did this the door now opens one inch on the first push of the accuator button with no credit card required.

Took less than 5 minutes to fix mine. Thanks to everyone who contributes to the forums, it makes my Z life even sweeter - if that is possible.
