Okay, I have looked at the questions concerning window issues on the 350 and I have a recent problem that came up this past week.
My driver side window goes down just fine and will go all the way up but, when it reaches the top, it automatically goes down about halfway. It reminds me of an elevator door that won't close if an object is in the way. A good safety feature on elevators but, not built into car windows, at least not on a z.
Could this be an early sign that the motor or actuators are abouit to go?
has anyone experienced the same kind of problem? I can get the window to go all the way up and stay up as long as I do it in small increments..

Thanks for the advice. I figured that if I took it to our local Nissan dealer, they would most likely tell me that I need to replace both window motors in order to get the most $$$$ out of me..I will try your suggestion out and see if that does the trick
Ok thanks all, this thread came up in a search. I was having the exact same problem for years, that the window goes down 6 inches on its own. I figured this was a 'feature' and just ignored it. However a few days ago it refused to go back up, I barely got it right before a huge storm hit. I googled for 350z window reset like the post above and i found out how to fix it. In case those sites arent around in the future, here's a breakdown
Pre-work: Make sure the window is all the way up before starting work
Tools needed:
Very small flathead (those tiny kinds)
Average size flathead s/d
Average size phillips s/d
Socket with 9,10,11MM (maybe just 2 of those are needed can't remember)
Step 1: Remove door panel finisher
-Pull the door handle back and remove that fake plastic screw covering. Now the screw/bolt is exposed, remove that too.
-With a small flathead, pop off the plastic window control on door. Once off, unplug the two power cables from the plastic window control
-Remove both the screw and bolt that you now can see
-Using a large flathead that is wrapped around a cloth (won't harm paint), go around the edges of the black door panel and pop off the 7-10 plastic holders. This will take a little bit of force but don't worry you won't break anything important. Its hard to know where they all are, so just insert your flathead in an edge between the black panel and the metal door and pull back. The first few are the hardest the others get alot easier. This step will take up the majority of your time.
-Go up to your door handle and look at those two very long metal cables going from it into the door. Look how they go into the handle, thats how you remove them. Its actually very easy and involves no tools. Take a hold of each wire, and basically just lift up and out. You see the wire that has a sphere at the end you can pull? Thats how you open the door once your inside, just pull that little end.
-In the door panel that is now clinging on for dear life, the gaping hole where the plastic window control was now has a cable sticking through it. Push that power cable back out through the hole so its no longer holding the panel up. You should see a second wire that connects to the rear of the panel by a small grey clip. Unclip it, and the door panel should now freely come off.
-Take the plastic window control and reattach it to the cables, sans door panel. You still need it to operate the windows.
-VERY IMPORTANT. All the previous steps did was remove the door panel, you still need to access the window regulator switch. You do NOT need to remove that back panel, you just need to remove the circular black sticky pad that is blocking the switch. It's around the center of the door, and looks like a small black button. Keep removing and replacing each sticky pad until you find it.
Now you can being the procedure as outlined in the link below. The procedure took all of a minute, really quite easy.
Step 2: Window reset procedure

Ok so I just did the window reset procedure as I described above but now I hear this sound when I close the window. It happens when the window is 3/4ths of the way down. There is no sound when it is being raised up. In the instruction pictures I posted above, it is said to close the door and then continue with the process. I opened and closed it a few times afterwards to make sure that it was fixed. Maybe I closed door too hard? I never forced the window into any position, so I'm not sure what the cause of the sound is.
ok I fixed the clunking. I took the door panel off again, went through the reset procedure several times and made extra sure to tight stuff up again. The one difference is that in my previous reset, i didn't see the last part about opening the door at the end. I did that a few times now the clunking is gone.
