Question Clicking sound in clutch

Quick question for y'all... my 05 350ZR makes a click when I depress the clutch pedal to shift. It's not all the time, but often enough for me to know it's not normal. Duh!

Anyway, has anyone ever had this problem before and know what it may be? The clutch works and engages just fine... other than the "click."

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I should note that I've only got 22,800 miles on it... bought it used last July and is my primary DD when I'm not riding my motorcycle to/from work.

I hear a clicking noice when I press my clutch in as well. Mine clicks as I'm releasing the clutch, but the noise is definetly coming from the pedal.

That's it! Mine does the same thing. I wonder if it's an issue that '05 6MT's have?

Anyone else on this thread w/ an '05 had or have this issue? If so, any resolve?!?!?!?

At what point in the clutch travel does the click happen? Maybe it's just the clutch switch, if it's right near the bottom.

I've got an 05 and my tranny also makes TONS of noise! From the clicking when i engage/disengage the clutch pedal, the chatter from the tranny (figured this should be the throwout bearing), to the clunking noises when i shift gears (synchronizers).

People have told me to try changing to Redline gearoil and see if it helps but i've also learned to live with it lol. As i've heard other local Z32's having tons of problems with their trannies, i just figure it's a notorious Nissan transmission thing

I get the clicking during the "up travel" as I'm releasing the clutch between gears. ironically, it doesn't make the click when I leave the stick in neutral and just press the clutch in and out.

Winchman, what is the fix if it is the clutch switch? Easy? DIY fix?

I too have learned to live with it, but it's annoying at the same time.

The clutch switch isn't the problem if the noise only happens when the car is in gear. Your symptom points to the clutch itself. How loud is the click? Is it just one single click?

There are threads here about replacing the switch. It's one of the easier and less expensive DIY repairs.

The clutch switch closes near the floor on the way down, and opens soon after you start coming up. That keeps the car from moving if you try to start the engine with the car in gear.

It's normal, Z transmissions are just loud. No need to fret.

I have an 07 and I don't know if it would be the same problem but my clutch does make a small click sound when I press on the clutch. But I actually only heard it when my car was off though. If it did sound like that while I was driving it wasn't that loud to notice

It's not a really loud click, but noticeable when releasing the clutch after changing gears. Sometimes the click can be completely void if I concentrate and shift slower. Can't explain it, but I've never had this w/ any other car before.

It may be "normal" for a 350Z, but my 1996 300ZX was buttery smooth, and previous Nissan manual transmissions I've owned have never clicked. Makes me wonder where Nissan went wrong for the 350Z... even the 370Z's I've driven didn't click, so the problem has to have been fixed by their engineers.

Interesting... do you feel the click, physically, when it makes the sound? I've felt mine as it clicked from time to time.

Do you feel it in the clutch pedal or in the shifter?

I've driven several MT 350Zs and 370Zs, and all have been faultless in operation. However, I didn't like the noisy rattle they had in neutral with the clutch released.

I feel/hear mine in the clutch pedal. Just a little click when I let off the clutch, also only in gear. It just started happening recently and is annoying... Mine is an 06 btw

Maybe the pressure plate release fingers and pivots are binding a little in the clutch cover when torque is being transmitted through the clutch. There would be a side load on the pivots as the clutch is released only when the car is in gear.

That's the only thing I can think of that explains the in-gear-only aspect. That seems like really low miles for that sort of problem.

You'd probably have to replace the pressure plate to see if that's the cause. If I was going to go through the trouble of dropping the transmission to investigate the clicking, I'd just go ahead and put in a new clutch anyway.

are you sure it is your clutch and not your axle? Axle clicking is a common problem. Mine would click in 1st and 2nd when I let the clutch out.

Neu Era, I don't think that problem is anything like what we've been discussing here.

Jenna03Z, there's no reason the axle clicking would be felt in the clutch pedal as it's being released, and I've never seen that symptom mentioned in the threads about the axle issue.

could be ur throwout bearing. at first when mine was going out it didnt always make the noise. after time it got worse and more consistant. it will eventually get to the point where it catches when you push in the clutch and your car can be in neutral and you will hear this sound like a wierd rubberband strechy sound. if you actually focus and think about it you will put aside the wierd rubberband sound and you will realize that its the bearings moving in it

If it was the throwout bearing, it wouldn't matter if the car was in gear or not.
