Starting issues
2 days ago I was driving to a friend's house when I got there and stopped smoke started coming out of the dash
so I tried to kill it and it wouldn't turn off. I popped the hood and ran to pull the battery terminals off. It smelled like the starter was burning, so I let it cool for a minute then tried to start the car. Car cranks but the starter never disengages so I kill it again and it dies but the starter continues to turn until I remove the battery terminals. I had the starter checked at autozone they say its good. Checked the relay that controls the actual spinning of the starter motor and it is fine. I can't find what ever controls the throwout of the solenoid but I bypassed it and I still get the same problem.
My only guess is that the spring in the solenoid has to have gone out. And I still cannot figure out why my dash started smoking. Any ideas on what is causing the starter problems or why the dash was smoking?
ps: This all happened on my birthday

Do you have a remote start system installed? Sounds like it went haywire, I had a viper go nuts and do that kind of stuff (minus the smoking) but poor install wiring could easily cause the smoking you saw.
Yes it had one installed but I know it was wired 100% correctly. I have almost without a doubt determined that the solenoid is sticking but I can't figure out why it would back power back into the remote start system and cause it to start smoking.
