Default Road and Track is interested in our problems...

Hey all.
First of all, let me clarify by stating the following. I know the person who manages the Road and Track web site. While not directly involved in road testing or otherwise, he does know much about what articles are currently being researched. And told me the following:

Road and Track, due to a large number of complaints from their reading audience, is currently investigating rumors of tire wear problems inthe 350Z. While their particular test vehicle(long term test with a touring model), showed no adverse wear, they have received an alarming number of complaints from the community. They are currently in contact with both Nissan and their own engineering department to try to figure out what the real problem and solutions are. I will update further if I get any more info.

In the meantime email them with your experiences, any info to them must help, and dont let up on the corporate big boys. They have to listen to their customers eventually.

-Joe
p.s. Maybe we should start telling Road and Track about the tranny problems also? Anyone want to start that conversation? I will be later today, but all are welcome!!!

AFAIK, there are no more cars being sold with defective trannies and more than likely 99% of the bad ones have already been fixed.

I think we should start reporting it to car magazines.
Will try to post couple of links soon.

I don't think thats true. There are so many varying levels of "problem" with this transmission. Plus, Nissan *JUST* released another revision to this transmission, that even includes a new Clutch Pedal Assembly.

If we start putting some pressure on mags, they have to start putting some pressure on the companies. As I said R&T has started this research based on responses by their readers. NOT because of Nissan. I do understand that there is a good chance that this article never makes it to print due to ad pressure. Mags lose money on subscriptions. They only make money based on ads. This results in the all to common road test biases, as well as the evenly distributed"CAR OF THE YEAR AWARDS!!!" Come on, the P/T cruiser!!! that is proof enough for me.

But back to the topic, if they dont realize the extent of this problem, they might never research it and Nissan will get away with yet another one. Just thought you guys might have been interested in the interest they have shown to the consumer.

-Joe

p.s. I am curren tly sending a link to the thread of tranny replacements as well as one to the tire feathering thread. Any other opinions should be sent to R&T, or Car and Driver, or Motor Trend. Just get them involved.

I am not in the market to sell my Z. And I do not want to "get over it" as you so eloquently put it. I do however want what I paid narly $30k for. I bought a brand new car from a major manufacturer, and I expect a certain level of quality. Sorry if you are happy with a subpar product, but many of us are not. I am not looking foward to potentially having my transmission replaced, though it needs it, multiple times as many board members have. I also dont expect to have to make several trips to the dealer for a "free tire rotation", or alignment due to a factory problem. If you consider this acceptable, then you are Nissan's dream customer.
Maybe you just got your 2004 model, and you aren't experiencing any problems. Good for you. I preordered my car, waited patiently for 6 months, and paid good money for it. I do not think that just because I ordered from the first batch of vehicles that my car should be experiencing any more problems than a vehicle that came off the production line months or even years later.

I folded, traded in my Z for a 2004 g35 coupe 6mt, and haven't looked back since. It was worth every penny of the 10k I lost to get out of that car... and from the looks of it, many others are following suit.

I wish i could afford the -10000 to get out, I am stuck with it. There is no way i can pay 45,000 for a car and i am not about to bay 22,000 for a 12,000 dollar car! Im better off eating this and looking into getting a better paying job so i can have 2 cars until i can actually make a profit off this Z by parking it and using a beater car!
