rack n pinion knowledge?
so last night i ran around with some buds cruising in our z's i heard some noises realized my undertray had come off at 90mph so today while fixing and bolting up the rear part of tray i noticed this nut on the back of the rack and pinion was filthy i ran my finger over it to find it sludgy oil seeping out. tightening this nut will this solve the issue at hand? or is there seals or something to be replaced, the vehicle is a 2004 touring 6speed 350z 70,067 on the clock. it is lowered on tein basics lowest setting in rear about 1.5in front drop, anyone with knowledge please chime in thanks

Couldn't hurt to try and clean it up and tighten it. What's the worst that could happen? Obviously, I'd call a dealership or google the torque specs. Other than that, I can't see anything being too detrimental from doing the aforementioned activities to that bolt.

ur Pinion seal is probably leaking I only had 35000 miles on my 08 350Z 6speed manual when mine started leaking not only that my tranny oil seal was leaking too so I had both replaced under warranty.

,
Uploaded with ImageShack.usthis is where im leaking, i have impact sockets this big but they will not fit in the space to tighten this down, im looking into some wrenches metric 22 and up, i do not wanna use channel locks, dont wanna mar the bolt. if i were to remove this bolt drain the system, where is the seal? behind this bolt or somewhere else? and then how do you fill this system back up?

I think that's a screw for adjusting the contact pressure between the pinion and the rack. You probably shouldn't just tighten it. It's probably adjusted with some sort of thread locker or sealant on the threads to keep it in place.
You should get section PS of the service manual for your year for the details.

This might help.
The adjuster parts are in the lower right corner. You can get more info about them here:

Section PS of the service manual says to use "Three Bond 1111B or equivalent" on the adjusting screw.

How much is it leaking? Have you noticed any drop in the level in the power steering fluid reservoir?
If it's not leaking much and you're not having to add fluid very often, I'd just leave it be.
The procedure in the SM for adjusting that screw is pretty involved, and you have to disconnect the steering shaft and tie rods to get it done correctly. You'll also need some special tools. It would probably be best to remove the whole thing from the car if you really need to take it apart. You should do an alignment after reinstalling it, too.

You don't want to just tighten it. It's an adjustment screw that's sealed with threadlocker. Tightening it too much will make the car hard to steer and/or damage the rack and pinion parts. Read the service manual.
