Rough Gear Changes?!
Not sure if this has been covered anywhere else on the forum but...
I'm on my second tranny for my February delivered '03. Ever since I got an S2000, and drove around my roomate's G35 Coupe, I've noticed that shifting into any gear requires a lot more effort than the above two cars. Its kind of hard to remember if its always been like that, even after I got my second transmission installed for 3rd gear grinds, but its really bugging me. Changing gears on the G35 Coupe is really smooth, and requires very little effort to get the shifter into gear. Basically, it feels like there's a lot more resistance in my Z. The s2000 blows away the Nissan transmission as well, but I still love both cars
Is this resistance throughout the gears indicative of another transmission problem, or is it common knowledge that the Z has a lot more resistance in each of the gates than the G35 Coupe (which I assumed has the exact same tranny). Also, the clutch feels lot heavier to press than the G35 Coupe.
I'm in the San Diego area, and maybe I just need a refresher on what another Z feels like in terms of shifting. Let me know if anybody's willing to give me a ride. Thanks.

I owned a 350Z, and now a G35 coupe, and one of my good friends owns an S2000 which i get to drive around when hes working
The s2000 has the best gearbox, hands down, and a clutch that feels invisible. The G35 and 350Z have the same gearbox, but they did redesign the transmission 3 times if i recall correctly. Perhaps you got the original transmission and the G35 has a new build. both transmissions should feel identical. my 04 coupe's transmission, however, feels infinitely better than my Z's transmission... probably another redesign. Don't know what I can tell you, except that you'll have to live with it... or pray the tranny goes bad (odds aren't that bad of this happening) and get the redesigned tranny under warranty. Hope for the best, good luck.
