Default 06 still has axle click?

Hey guys, I recently upgraded from my 03 Z to an 06, and while I had my 03 I experienced that rear axle click which I got fixed, but at a cost (which was ridiculous.... 600, yes I was ripped the hell off and now I know better). I haven't found many threads mentioning the 06 having the same issue, and the TSB as far as I can recall is for the 03-04 models. The 06 has 60k on it. Do you guys think Nissan will fix this for me for a fair price? I'm not looking to lose 300 for this stupid thing.... all they do is tighten/lube **** up. If they replace the nuts and bolts, that's like what, $10 at most? Serious.

Any info will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Z community

I would avoid the stealership at all costs. Perhaps find a local shop to do the work. Please note that a special grease/lube is needed.

I had this service done for less than a 100 bucks.

GL.

My 06 had the clicking and the dealer charged me $285 to fix it. I told them that it should be covered for free and they told me "sorry, its a ware item and not covered". I called Nissan corp. and they sent me my money back. Dumb *** dealer!!!

When did you have the service performed? And on what grounds should the service be done for free? I was expecting to pay something but nothing more than 100. Details, sir!

Do you know what type of lube/grease it is? In case I need to take it to a local shop, perhaps I can tell them right away what they need. Also, how did you get that shop to not bs you by saying something like "ohhhhh we have to take apart the axles and make sure it's all good, blah blah blah blah blah". The idiot mechanic I went to gave me this whole lecture on "you don't know that there's nothing wrong with the axles. If there wasn't, you wouldn't be having clicking issues." I don't want another mechanic to repeat this :/

Luckily I have a local performance shop that specializes in 350z's. He's a vendor on my350z and his work is top notch. PM Ed@APH, he can help you with the questions in regards to the type off grease/lube that you need. This is a common issue with our cars, hopefully you can find a trust worthy shop that can do the job for you.

If you're out of warranty, I don't know why you would have any reasonable expectation of getting it fixed for free. It should not cost more than $200-$300 based on the time it takes to perform the repair.

Thank you Sickboy, appreciate it. Will do.

DavesZ, yeah I am not expecting it to be free. But at the same time I don't believe this repair should cost 200-300. Do they absolutely have to replace the bearing assembly/joint assembly? That's what the TSB calls for, but I just think they need to replace a few nuts and bolts/lube it up. What do you think?

Update: Just found out that the car still has its original 6 year 100,000 mile warranty. The warranty covers axles, however the explanation is extremely vague. What the hell do they mean by "mechanical breakdown"? I mean, LITERALLY break to the point where the axles dont even move?! If thats the case, that is bs. My interpretation of it is that this IS a mechanical breakdown. But that's just me.... Randy did you get that fix covered with this warranty? It's Nissan's Security Plus Gold Preferred.

With a name like "Security Plus Gold Preferred", the warranty should cover everything except the nut behind the wheel, but I doubt it does.

Man this is really irritating. Nissan told me that the warranty is non-transferable, even with the signature and everything from the original owner. It's so stupid because there's a page that says TRANSFER and says you can do it. WTF? The original owner was telling me she'd help me out too by signing the form for me. Ugh.

Second, Nissan won't perform the repair service I want done. Service manager said his technicians will do what they are trained to do (perform the TSB which will cost me more dinero). If anyone knows a good shop in SoCal that will do what I want them to do, and not tell me otherwise, please let me know. :/

Jack rear of car, remove wheels , remove axle cotter key, remove axle bolt , push axle back as far as possible (about 1 inch ) apply lube (i would use a little antisieze) , instal;l axle nut , new cotter key , install wheel, down jack.

Both side can be done in way less than 1 hour at home. Anyone with a man card will be able to do it.

Haha, that's true, it doesn't damage anything. But it will get progressively louder, as it did with my 03. Sometimes I like to drive without any music playing and whatnot, with my windows rolled down. On a residential street the sound is just annoying. When it bounces off the cars around me, its pretty intense. Today I backed up for a bit and I just heard CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK lol. Its a little embarrassing, to me at least. If I can perform the procedure myself I totally will. Just need a little guidance

Oh see, I have never had it click like that...the axle hub is generally loose and slides when making turns (at least with mine), so I intermittently get the click clack when driving slow on corners...havent even bothered to do it myself yet lol

Just a thought, I had what I thought was "axle click" yet it turned out to be the brake pads. Each time the adhesive on the back of the pads wears bakes away, I get the click. Remove brakes and reapply more, no clicking until it bakes away again. I've learned to live with it for now as hopefully it will be traded for a C6.

noooo it's definitely the infamous axle click.... I had the same sound on my 03 and it went away after I had gotten a rip off service. Ugh. Definitely not enjoying it right now
